Animation wizard Steve Stanchfield has done it again. If you loved his Gulliver's Travels, you'll go ga-ga over this one even more. I've seen the transfers and he has once again gone above and beyond making forgotten classic animation accessible in immaculate quality. Steve's filling in the cracks of the medium's origins that most have left unfilled for too long.

Keep in mind, too, that Steve is an army of one and there may be a delay in the shipping (he has to take care of the pre-orders first). But like Gulliver, or any of his releases, it's worth the wait.

From the cover, I thought there was a Wizard of Oz cartoon that I've never seen before. Ted Eshbaugh Oz looks great in 1080, was this restored version on the 75th anniversary from last year?

Just ut of curiosity though why did this version of Oz not included the Cowardly Lion, did Ted Eshbaugh forget that the lion existed or did the budget run out and that's why the lion was absent?

You'd have to ask an Oz historian. More fascinating to me is how the Eshbaugh version does the switch from black-and-white (re: sepia) to full Technicolor when Dorothy leaves the farm for Oz. And this was years before the MGM movie! Insight into that would be appreciated.

awaiting that preorder ; and for those who are greatly displeased with the "restorations" and revisions that have happened in animation by "ahem, Disney" allow me to introduce you to Thunderbean Animation, Steve does amazing things, this is a one man show, and a labor of love and understanding of the historical nature of the films and shorts presented. As the old advertisement stated, "It's worth the wait" and I am waiting to see what he has in store after this Private SNAFU Golden Classics!

Damn, missed out on the pre-order and bonus disc. I'll grab this one I guess. I emailed a few times if it was still available as a pre-order since his website says Nov 15th. Never got a response

As stated in an earlier post, Thunderbean is a one-man show run by Steve Stanchfield. The pre-order on the page is from last year, and was originally meant to be released in December of 2013.

The pre-orders are no longer available, but you can purchase this set on Amazon.

Steve may be slow, but his work is always worth it!

Thunderbean studio is exceptional in restoring these cartoons, and I really hope Disney could follow its example someday!

It's beyond me how a man with limited budget can deliver this result, and a multi-millioner studio with dozens of "specialists", delivers the poorest results ever seen in animation!

Getting these releases right doesn't take multimillions (although if things were right, he'd have them). It takes integrity and dedication.

No comments yet? Guess I'll start off by saying that this set is simply incredible. I know I say that about every single Thunderbean release, but they warrant the praise.

Do yourself a favor and start with The Wizard of Oz. Every single person I've talked to says they prefer that as the first Technicolor cartoon, instead of Flowers and Trees.

I've had the set for a while but have been taking my time in watching it. That way, the pleasure of seeing these beautifully restored cartoons will last longer.I finally saw THE WIZARD OF OZ and THE MAGIC MUMMY yesterday. Wow! Absolutely fantastic.

Steve Stanchfield and his team have done an outstanding job. This release is VERY highly recommended!

I recently watched "The Enchanted Square" for the first time when I picked up Mill Creek's 200 Classic Cartoons box set, which also has "The Wizard of Oz," both in p.d. copies. Then I found a copy of "Enchanted Square" on YouTube that is absolutely gorgeous. Am I correct in assuming that someone posted the restoration copy from this DVD on to YouTube already?

Yes, that is ripped from the Thunderbean collection.

A wonderful disc. Had never seen THE SNOWMAN before. How creepy can you get? Loved it!

It should be noted that Steve Stanchfield's restoration is the first time that The Snowman has been seen in color widely for some 80 years. Also, Wizard of Oz has been around, but only in a grungy transfer sourced from a work print.

Sorry, haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I do hope to get around to watching it this week.

More specifically, it was probably ripped from last year's Noveltoons DVD release by Thunderbean.

Can't wait for my copy to arrive here in the UK!Alistair
