Go! =)

Based on my limited research the best deal for me is the XBR65X900A but not sure, thats why im asking :P

Also i wont be purchasing now, will probably pull the trigger by the end of the next month.

I guess my only choices are: (as today)

XBR65X850A
65LA9650
XBR65X900A

For that price i could buy a very high end 1080p TV, but i dont want to buy 1080p and 6 months from now regret it :(

I wouldn't buy a high end TV in 2014 but that's just me. If you absolutely must you're choices are probably between the 900A and the comparable Samsung, whatever number that is.

If you want 4K, wait till "next year".This current crop is half-baked.Next year models start getting released in Aug-Sept through April.

so by black Friday/ Christmas "next year" models will be available? now new usually means more money so the new one may not be under my $2500 budged...

Ill be moving to a new apartment and i will use my Samsung UN46D8000YF in my bedroom and something bigger (what im looking for) for the living room...

I know i need a tv by November for sure, and i just dont want to spend $2k on a nice 1080p and regret it 3 months after, or spend $2500 on a 4k and regret it 3 months after...

I'm no expert by any means, but I can offer the advice that it depends how big of a screen you have relative to how far away you will be sitting.

I've read numerous articles (and tested in person to see for myself) which explain that for many people there is no reason to get a 4K display, and that 1080p is just fine.

Basically, the logic is that the less of your field of vision the screen takes up - the less you can even see the 'higher resolution'. If you are wanting around 65" or so, I would guess that you probably can't see a difference between a 1080p display and a 4k display if you're 10 feet away.

If you sit closer, or make the TV substantially larger, or both - then yeah you might be able to perceive a difference. To test for yourself, just go to a store and find 2 same-size displays with the same video and stand about as far back as you would be sitting at home. If you can see a clear improvement on the 4k display - quite possibly you would notice at home as well.

Although the stores might have the 4k screen configured properly to make it look even better, but you have to take that into consideration...

This is my advice.Buy the cheapest thing that will suffice, for you.1. Plasma died.2. 4K disc is not even an option yet. For the vast majority, if no disc...4k is dead. (And it is for me...in a limited cap area)2. OLED is still looming(long story...and the final chapter is no where close)

I am in the market for (ideally) a 70-75" right now and would suggest that you just take a few trips to local TV shops to see which models look best to you.

Right now I am debating between a 2012 model Sharp 70" with full-array LED backlight (but no dimming), and a 2013 Samsung 75" edge-lit with "local dimming".

On paper, the Sharp should offer higher quality - but I need to see them both in person to decide which one looks nicer to me.

I'm a little leery of Sharp purely because when I was growing up it seemed like a cheap K-Mart brand. Granted Samsung wasn't exactly premium quality back then either...

Problems with the stores right now, its that 4k is dominant, i went to few local tv stores and all of them specially best buy are pushing 4k, they have alot of 4k tvs that look gorgeous, then you look at the 1080p and none of them look as good... that was i was so bias about 4k tvs because at the store they look fantastic.

Then again im not sure whats the benefit of buying a non 4k now... 4K is not ready, no media for it.. But 1080p content seems to look better on them because of the upscale,, 1 year from now when 4K is ready you would have a 4K tv and dont need to worry... Otherwise if you buy 1080p 1 year from now it will be garbage. I understand 6 months from now the new 4K are going to be better than the current 4K, but also will be better than 1080p, and by the looks of the TV at bestbuy for example 4K looks wayyyy better than 1080p with its native content

Yeah like schan said, buy the cheapest set that looks good to you.

I wouldn't personally recommend anyone to buy a 65" 4k TV unless you are going to sit closer than 8-9 feet away but if you like it better by all means get what makes you happy.

There's not much worse than dropping thousands of dollars for a TV, only to get it set up at home and wish you had bought "the other one" instead...

I haven't got the apartment yet, but the living room is 13'x15' the tv and the couch will be in the 13' axis, so i guess a couch takes 2-3 ft? ill be looking at it from 10ft away? how do you guys calculate this from a floor plan?

I'd just ballpark it - and go stand 10 feet away from a 4k 65" screen, and again from a 1080p 65" screen (ideally same manufacturer, as close as possible technology) and see if you can actually notice much better detail on the 4k at that distance.my room is about 12ft wide by 24ft deep, and I have things set up right now where I sit about 11ft from the tv screen - so that's why I am looking for 70-75". 65" should be great for your setup, I could probably deal with a 65" too but I figure if I can get a 70 or 75 for not too much more why not.
