Rumor has it that Kino will be releasing the excellent (and rare!) Film Noir TIMETABLE starring Mark Stevens later this year on DVD.

I'll definitely be buying it!

I never heard of this movie. I just looked it up on IMDB. Look at that cast: Wesley Addy, Alan Reed, Jack Klugman and John Marley!

Apparently Kino has cancelled their release of TIMETABLE. Though the film was mastered, they discovered the rights to the film were tied up. Very disappointing!

Gee, you think they would have discovered the rights issues before they mastered it!

Mark Stevens is one of the more invisible leading men of film history. I have seen the film he made with Lucy and Clifton Webb, and he was quite good, but so much about him, including his name, simply fails to stand out.

Stevens was an "ordinary guy" leading man who emerged at Fox because he was 4-F during the war because of a back injury, so he moved up while all the "real" movie stars were away at war. He was best in ordinary guy roles like the returning veteran who lives in the Bronx with his bride, Joan Fontaine, in FROM THIS DAY FORWARD, or the rather inept private eye in DARK CORNER, who gets victimized in a way you can't imagine Bogart or Mitchum getting victimized. He made westerns and TV series in the 1950s. Likeable, but not terribly charismatic.

He did guest shots on TV shows right up until 1987 when he would have been 70.

Until this thread, I hadn't heard of this film either. I'm sorry to learn the release has been cancelled. I'd have bought the disc.

Rights issues - again!

Reminds me of "The Devil Thumbs a Ride".

Now I hope there can be clearances for "Devil" and "Timetable".
