NBC Universal Japan will release the complete original series of Glen A. Larson's Knight Rider (1982-1986), starring David Hasselhoff, on Blu-ray in Japan on November 27th, 2014.

Initial information unfortnately suggests this will have only lossy DTS and Dolby Digital audio, but this is unconfirmed. It will contain episodes remastered from film and presented in the proper 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Each season will contain six discs, for a total of 24 Blu-ray Discs. There will also be two DVDs featuring the Knight Rider 2000 (1991) and Knight Rider 2010 (1994) telefilms.

As with the Japanese Columbo Blu-ray box, the fact that only Japanese subtitles are included suggests this release will be limited to Japan, and not released concurrently in other countries, like the recent House M.D. Blu-rays. The Columbo Blu-ray also had unclear audio specs and lossless audio on its discs, so I am hoping this release is in the same boat.

I don't know how well the sped up camera will hold up.Missed this yesterday...slightly more interested than ambivalent. If it included a voice activated remote control KITT...

Correction: I have confirmed with someone who owns the set that the Japanese Columbo Blu-ray box set contains only Dolby Digital 2.0 audio, not LPCM audio.

For some reason, I can no longer edit the original post.

I guess that is one release I will not be getting from Japan anytime soon. I did a conversion of the price(no freight listed) to my country's currency and it worked out at around A$510. Only $30 or $40 less for a US buyer. Why do they do this?

As soon as I saw this post I knew this set would be ultra expensive. I used to own the Columbo set I watched it then sold it off. It was just DD 2.0. I would hope at this point they would release this series in dts HD 2.0. The set will drop in price after a few years then maybe I would bite. I know some have been lucky enough to get the Columbo set for roughly 250.00-300.00 and the transfers are worth it IMO.

Currently about $250 converted to the U.S. Dollar.

Would love to see information on it in any capacity (video quality, audio quality etc.). I did some searching, and couldn't find any reviews in English good or bad. I can't even confirm if it is region locked, or region free(like my Japanese Dawn Of The Dead Blu set).
Hoping for an American release sometime next year to solve the mystery.
