Would people say that this is more of a kiddie western (Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers) or an "adult western" (Gunsmoke)? Thanks

I'd say kiddie , but there's nothing wrong with that . Many kids oriented shows are very entertaining ie.: Captain Midnight , Adventures Of Superman, Fury, Range Rider, Gene Autry, Hopalong Cassidy, etc.

I agree. Personally, I generally prefer kiddie westerns to "adult" westerns, as the later are a bit too dramatic for me. A big exception to this would be Maverick which is well laden with humor.
