At the risk of sound like a broken record (too late!), do we know if Warners deal with Paramount even covers blu-ray or just licensing them for standard DVD? If the licensing agreement is restricted to standard DVD through their Archives program, I suppose it doesn't hurt to fantasize.

It covers blu-ray, but not all of Paramount catalog titles that are not with Universal now are included in this Warner/Paramount deal.

PAINT YOUR WAGON,IN HARM'S WAY and IS PARIS BURNING? were all box office flops.I saw them all in 70mm and could never understand why they were blown up to 70mm as all were,in my opinion, tedious affairs. There is no point in releasing films on bluray unless the quality is superior to the dvd release. In numerous cases they have been no better and a waste of time and money. Stop and think whether you would buy any of the titles that you want and watch them over and over again. Most of the titles listed in this forum, so far, are not worthy of having money being spent on them for a bluray release. Many titles listed were forgettable.

Warner's/Paramount released HATARI, GUNFIGHT AT OK CORRAL, and FUNNY FACE.

Each to there own. I enjoyed them. I would purchase the titles I listed and most of the others that have been listed. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean others don't and doesn't mean they shouldn't be released. Many titles you have listed in other posts I don't care for but I never said they didn't deserve a release. We have different tastes and I will leave it at that.

In Harm's Way, and VistaVision titles, eg The Court Jester, Artists & Models, Teacher's Pet, Pardners, Hell's Island.
And my three choices for Paramount VistaVision titles would be The Desperate Hours, The Leather Saint, and Li'l Abner.

Witness...absolutely. Ragtime... a movie that deserved a much better reception than it got at the box office. (It was nominated for 8 Oscars.) The first hour or so, where they weave all the stories together, before they focus on the Coalhouse Porter story, is excellent. After that it is just good. It also has a terrific Randy Newman score. Paint Your Wagon...a guilty pleasure. They spent a bomb on this movie. It is way too long. However, some of the songs, especially the choral numbers, are good and would sound good on Blu-ray. Those of us who like musicals take our minor thrills where we can get them. Ordinary People surprises me that it has not been released on Blu, if only for the fact it won Best Picture. Seems an obvious choice.

Was just watching part of Funny Face tonight. I agree it could be better, but I guess this is one of the times it is an advantage only having a 42 inch screen as it looks pretty good on my Panasonic Plasma. I do brighten the picture up a bit. (Me bad!) However, I think the chances of it being changed anytime soon are pretty pie in the sky. I kind of wish they would give us the Paramount version of War and Peace with Audrey Hepburn. I understand the Blu-ray in Europe is not great...but I would still like to see the movie again after so many years of watching a chopped up version on television.

Agreed and as with HATARI it's up to paramount. Warner is only releasing what Paramount gives them. It makes me wonder if it's like the MGM/Fox agreement which gave us THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD and WEST SIDE STORY not in the best transfer.

I'd certainly agree that it's not worth releasing a film on Blu unless there's a big upgrade in quality (& I've been watching a lot of my favourite films on my old DVD's lately & enjoying them, it beats waiting & moaning about that lack of a Blu-ray), but your second point doesn't hold water. Some of the best films made have been box office flops, & some of the worse, huge successes. It's all down to if you enjoy the movie (or music or anything), most of my favourite films wouldn't get into any proper top 500 lists, does that mean I shouldn't have them in HD? Of the three you listed, I think In Harm's Way is a very good movie (it helps that I'm a big Duke fan), Paint Your Wagon was a bit of a miss-fire, but I quite enjoy it, worth buying for Lee Marvin. Is Paris Burning? is I think, a bore, but I'm sure it's a favourite film of some people, & good luck to them if they get an HD release (& I can't think of any reason why a Blu wouldn't be a worthwhile upgrade of these films). I hope Warner/Paramount will release another little batch soon, maybe John Wayne trio: Donavan's Reef, The Sons Of Katie Elder & In Harm's Way. Out of that lot I'd only buy In Harm's Way, I find the other two a bit boring, but it would still be good if they were released.

I'd also love Ii'l Abner. The DVD mainly looks good, but there is a fault, it looks like it was made from b/w separation masters, & a few shots are misaligned, & it looks very rarely perfect, OK, but it would notice much more in HD.
