I know WMP isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread but I do like the layout. Is there any way to stop it from updating itself and overriding information I've put in?I spent 3-4 hours yesterday updating album art where it either didn't have any, had the incorrect art in the info or had done something weird and just pasted one album cover for half of my collection.

I got up this morning after updating a Gene Pitney album with the correct artwork and now it's totally lost 1/3-1/2 of the artwork I scoured around to find and replaced it with that Gene Pitney cover! Before it did it with The Complete Hank Williams artwork! I don't want to see Gene Pitney when I'm playing Floyd Cramer..... :D

Is there a setting I can turn off to stop it? If not, is there anything out there that's laid out similar to WMP that I can update with my own info? Thanks.

Okay, I know no one has replied but I THINK I've found the answer just in case anyone else is having this issue. There is an option in WMP for "organize." Click on "update media files" or something of that nature and it will take 20-30 minutes but it seems it saves my cover art. I woke up this morning to the same issue (this time it gave me Hank Williams instead of Gene Pitney). I saved the cover art in a separate file (it only does it to certain albums.....still don't know why that is) and fixed it. I've did the update now 3 times today and I haven't had any issues.....YET!

I've never used iTunes but I do like my cover art. I'll scour the Internet over multiple sites to find the art for something I'm missing.

BTW, the above suggestion proved to be a false hope. I updated album info on a Loretta Lynn box set and bam! All kinds of stuff changed to the Loretta Lynn cover art!

I've been using iTunes for years and don't have any issues with cover art. When I buy music, if the cover art for the album on which the song originally appeared isn't available, I can usually find the cover art on wikipedia, amazon or ebay. As far as WMP, I stopped using it about 10 years ago so I'm no help. Sorry.

Clinton, yeah, I'm not crazy about WMP. How does iTunes work exactly? I mean, yeah, I realize you pay to download music (I do it via Amazon) but can I import my own music? I have in the neighborhood of 16,000 songs on the computer as it stands and working on finishing up digitizing my LP's, cassettes and 8-tracks via Polderbits which will then be transferred into WMP.

I use Media Monkey to burn CD's since I can mix .wav and .mp3 files on the same disc. WMP gives me fits when I try to mix formats. However, I just don't like the functionality of Media Monkey.

Yes you can import music into itunes. You might try Spotify or MOG though.I use Spotify to control my itunes(which is, pretty much, all cd based).

That's a problem with the recent iTunes Genre categories. Each genre now has a bland graphic. But actual cover art isn't generic, unless it can't be found. Cover art is, well, cover art.And if it can't be found, copy it from Amazon and paste it in. :)

If I manually edit the information on unknown albums it seems to leave my artwork alone. I wasn't thinking last night and let it look up info on ONE SONG! I had to spend 2 hours reconfiguring my artwork because it updated a bunch of my albums with artwork for the album that ONE SONG was on! It only hits certain ones and I've learned which ones. I have them saved in a separate folder and I went through and copied/pasted but still disgusting nonetheless.
