Fox has re-released some titles with exclusive Comic-Con artwork. They also come with a limited edition numbered lithograph (at least the first 100 ordered online). I have seen both the covers and lithographs in person and they both look way better in person that in the images below.

Here is a link to order from Fox Connect. They are $19.99 each

Additionally they have a limited edition of Rise of the Planet of the Apes in a Caesar bust. This is the 3D/BD/DVD/DHD version with a 32 page booklet. It looks fantastic in person! Its available for pre-order at Comic-Con and online at Fox Connect.

Here is a pic I took on the floor. The detail is amazing!

I have a link to a higher res version here.

Tempting....

That bust of Caesar is very, very nice. Detail is fantastic.

However, not sure I am ready to drop $100 on this.

What are these, exactly? Regular Blu-rays with slipcovers? Steelbooks? I can't tell from those photos. They look cool but I already have copies of the films I like out of that batch. Might grab the Robocop one but only if it's a steelbook

BTW, while we're on the subject of Comic-Con (and Fox), if the Abyss or True Lies don't get announced during the convention then that means they're not coming out this year. I'm almost 100% sure of that.

They are not steelbooks, just really nice slipcovers with some metallic accents. Note: the metallic accents aren't on the lithos, just the slipcovers. I know a few years ago James Cameron was the reason for the delay on those titles--he was too busy to work on them. Not sure if that's still the case now, but he does have his hands full with Avatar.

I agree that the absence of a Fox statement about The Abyss will essentially mean that they're not intending to have it out on Blu-ray this year. I don't know that there's been any rumor that they would, but I do know that many fans have been hoping to hear something. Bill Hunt did indicate he thought something would happen, but I don't what he was basing it upon.

I've been hearing that its near for several years from lots of people at the studios, authoring houses even James Cameron himself. They are coming, just don't know when.

Re Caesar, I hate editions that don't fit nicely on the shelf and refuse to buy them, but I am so tempted to make an exception in this case, it looks that good.

Agreed.

Fox knows the importance of both these titles.

Obviously, James Cameron has been busy with his Avatar ambitions.

It's going to be done....just when time is found to do them right.

Didn't we learn anything from the rumors or a Batman announcement at last years Comic-Con? :)According to my sources Cameron won't have time to look at them until Sept/Oct of this year, so sometime next year would be a safe bet.

Great, that'll probably happen in 2018.

Not for Blu-ray. I think the DVD of Abyss used the LD transfer (that's why it was non-anamorphic), and the True Lies one for DVD is years old. He has final approval on the transfers. Its possible they have already done new transfers, but he needs to have the time to look them over with a fine tooth comb in order to identify and fix anything he doesn't like so he is happy with and can then approve them and then the encodes. Once that happens the discs can be authored and manufactured. They can't even have a manufacturing date, let along a release date until they know when things will be approved. He hasn't had time to do that and won't until September/October, of course that is subject to change.

I don't know anything about what HBO is showing and how new it is. Here is what I have been told:

1) Everybody wants to see these released
2) Don't hold your breath for an announcement as there won't be one today at Comic-Con or in the immediate future.
3) In the next month or so Cameron and the folks at Lightstorm will start looking at and working on these for Blu-ray release. He has been busy with the Avatar films, not to mention the Titanic 3D conversion over the past few years, so he hasn't had time to tackle them. A hole is opening up in the schedule and they are going to try to do the work needed to get them approved for release. I would guess that means we will be looking at sometime in mid 2015 (my guess).

I've said what I can say on the subject.

It aired on cinemax first back in april or march. then showed up on hbo this month. its on the hbo family and on demand. I heard good things about it. It was the theatre version and has a teal looked to it that most people liked. there are some screenshots floating around online. They compare the cinemax to the dvd.

I just had a thought. while the theatre release is indeed this year. perhaps cameron is waiting for the 25 Anniversary of the abyss for 1993 with the release of the special edition of the abyss?

Adam,

Thank you for sharing what you know.

It's not the news a lot of us wanted to hear, but at least we have an update and can assume these are coming at some point.
