I am a relative newby when it comes to a/v and I would like to know, in a 7.1 configuration, my front, center and surround speakers are all 8 ohm as is my receiver. The powered sub that I have is 6ohm. Will this work with the rest of the system, or do I need to buy a new sub?

If a sub is active, meaning it has it's own power supply, then it doesn't matter what its impedance is. That's because its own internal amp is the one that sees the impedance and its already been configured correctly by definition.
