I really hope the roadshows filmed in 70mm make it to bluray.- RYANS DAUGHTER----STAR!---DOCTOR DOLITTLE and others..
"Song of Norway" was released on standard def DVD in the UK several years ago - long OOP of course - but the quality was said to be lacking.Thomas T said:The one 70 millimeter Roadshow that I'd love to have wasn't even released on standard DVD! I'm talking about Song Of Norway (1970). I'm not holding my breath but if a musical disaster like At Long Last Love made it to blu, why not Song Of Norway?
It was a pan and scan transfer as I recall and without the roadshow trimmings (overture, intermission card, etc.)classicmovieguy said:"Song of Norway" was released on standard def DVD in the UK several years ago - long OOP of course - but the quality was said to be lacking.

A few others that quickly come to mind...Thomas T said:The one 70 millimeter Roadshow that I'd love to have wasn't even released on standard DVD! I'm talking about Song Of Norway (1970). Other missing in action 70 mm roadshows: The Alamo, Around The World In 80 Days, Barabbas, The Big Fisherman, Can-Can, Cheyenne Autumn, Custer Of The West, Greatest Story Ever Told, The Hallelujah Trail, Krakatoa East Of Java, MacKenna's Gold, Raintree County, Ryan's Daughter, Star!, Wonderful World Of The Brothers Grimm.
Several like Circus World, Doctor Dolittle, Exodus, 55 Days At Peking, Lord Jim are available in regions 2 and 4.
Ideally, roadshow to me means 65mm neg or Technirama 70 but not 35mm or 70mm blow ups from standard 35mm, so some of the above I'd disqualify!Paul Rossen said:A few others that quickly come to mind...A Man For All SeasonsThe Lion in WinterEl CidJudgment At NurembergThe Music Lovers..Roadshow in the UKThe Fall of the Roman Empire
I guess it's all a matter of opinion. To me Roadshow means a reserved ticket and seat performance. All the films from my list were seen in such circumstances. A Man For All Seasons played for more than 8 months at the Fine Arts Theater in NY. The Lion in Winter played at a cinema on 57th Street reserved tickets. El Cid played for months at the Warner. Judgment at Nuremberg played at the Palace. The Music Lovers was seen reserved seats in the UK (in 70mm blowup with spectacular sound!). And Roman Empire blasted away at The DeMille. Of course that was a bygone era as all of the Theaters mentioned are long gone(except The Palace).Douglas R said:Ideally, roadshow to me means 65mm neg or Technirama 70 but not 35mm or 70mm blow ups from standard 35mm, so some of the above I'd disqualify!
Funny you should mention Star! as I was watching "The Saga of Jenny" the other day.classicmovieguy said:

Comparison of the DVD to a 16mm anamorphic print (in pretty bad shape) I once had.Thomas T said:It was a pan and scan transfer as I recall and without the roadshow trimmings (overture, intermission card, etc.)
If Fox won't release this, then they should give it toTwilight Time.classicmovieguy said:
