I'm not much of an interior decorator so I could really use some help with the finishing touches on the theater I just built in my basement. I'm looking for suggestions on a few things:
[*]Sconces - I prewired the walls for sconces in 4 locations (locations roughly marked on the pictures). I wanted to wait until I decided on the other finishing touches before choosing sconces. I am not 100% decided on whether I want them or not.
[*]Trim - I plan on installing baseboard and window trim as well as trim around the crawlspace door. Is crown molding a good idea? My other question is, should I paint it white or some other darker color? If I went with something other than white I would probably paint the outlet covers as well. The Monoprice flush mount projector screen is white plastic, not sure how well it'd hold paint...
[*]Door - it's such an eyesore right now. I'm thinking just paint the door the same color as the walls. Trim too? Any other ideas?
[*]Stairwell - Lots of distractions coming from upstairs...noise from other tv, light pollution, etc. I would like to find some kind of way to isolate the theater from the upstairs but there is no way to install a door. I was thinking of a doing a really heavy fabric curtain and installing a long curtain rod so I could push the curtain back behind the bar when the theater was not in use. Does this sound like a good idea? Any recommendations on curtains?
[*]Center channel location - what should I do with it? I'd love to have enough money to buy an acoustically transparent screen and stick the speaker on the (currently non-existent) mantle, but that's not an option right now.
[*]Fireplace - I'm not very fond of the brick as it is, need to do something with it. I will never use the fireplace so functionality is not a huge priority except for resale value. I thought about white-washing it, but I was afraid that it might reflect light from the projector and be too much of a distraction. Also not sure what kind of mantle to do. Any better ideas?
[/list]
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!
