Robert Zohn owner Value Electronics has announced the dates and time of the 10th annual flatpanel shootout:

Just this second I was able to confirm our 2014 TV Shootout date for Saturday, August 16th beginning at 6PM and Sunday, August 17th at 3PM. I’ve been working very hard this year to make our 10th annual TV Shootout evolve and ascend with the times. To that end I have some very exciting news to announce: Dr. Larry Weber and Joe Kane will be joining us for the Shootout this year! They will be making special presentations that will interest our followers and the industry. For now here’s one more change for this year I can share. Our agenda has been upgraded; the manufacturer’s trainers who have been product feature presenters at all of our previous TV Shootout events will be replaced with each manufacturers’ senior executive and or a factory engineer.

I'm a bit concerned the professional opinions do not gel with what the public see at these events, for example last year they voted Panasonic ( again ) while member of the public voted for the Samsung F8500 plasma as their winner, it seems like the professional calibrators look at charts and the members of the public look at the overall image and how good that looks to them.

Wow no interest here, really?
I watched it last year Barry, this year it was just too late for me, i remember last year and it felt like i was outside just peeking into the window, i think this is the type of event you really need to be there and attend to get the most out of it, i wasn't too impressed by the fact the ordinary public felt the Samsung F8500 was the best television but the calibrators all went for the Panasonic, it told me they were using their tools and not their eyes to make their judgement, yes both televisions are very good but a plasma that can go very bright and get great black levels, c'mon that's no contest in my book.

I went in for ten minutes, trouble is whenever i typed something it was not showing up, the event itself seemed a bit dull without the ability to have a bit of banter with everyone so i left, the problem for me Barry is that i have a lot of knowledge on these things and i didn't feel i could learn a single thing from this event, i saw some people writing silly comments about 4K and wanted to reply but couldn't so i ended up leaving.

As i said earlier in my post i feel you need to be there to really enjoy these events, i know you may disagree on that but i'm not going to really learn much from watching such an event as i already know the information they are putting out and so the only reason i'd go is for the chat and i couldn't do that for some reason.

This year there was a tie between the LG 55EC93000 OLED and Samsung's PN64F8500 plasma for the audience vote. The calibrators chose Samsung's KN55S9C OLED.

Apparently it wasn't even close between the Plasma/OLED's and all of the LED LCD UHD's.

Strange audience because from what i gather the LG applies some noise reduction even when the feature is switched off.

Is there a summary, a writeup, a video showcase of the outcome? Or is this watch-it-live-or-nothing affair?

It's available to watch at the link in Post #5, but the program is over five hours long. That's hard to sit through as a fly on the wall.
