Impressions?

There's another showing of the pilot tonight at 10:00.

DVR'd it and will try to check it out this week, though I'm not thinking it's gonna be a keeper for me.

At first, I was excited - a show about outer space! Yay! And then, nope, that's just a few shots in the trailer, it's a show on Earth that's not really about space. Major bummer. But I'll give it a try nonetheless.

The Halle Berry interview in Entertainment Weekly didn't make me too confident, which is bad for a promotional piece. But I'm intrigued by some of the notions.

I thought it held interest. I loved that it was futuristic but not too much in terms of technical advances. I thought the moral argument for not putting a safeguard on the robots could have been made much more powerfully (i.e. if we don't treat them like slaves, they have no reason to revolt). But that's just a quibble. Looking forward to seeing more.

Really not that impressed with the show concept and how it actually turned out. Everyone has seen elements of this before from many movies and TV shows. The HAL type AI on the station that controlled everything, robots interacting with humans and its meaning (terminator, Outer Limits, etc.), aliens that have no physical existence and can inhabit others, science vs religion, etc. These are ALL themes that have been done to death and just didn't seem like there was anything remotely fresh about the show.

I am going to watch a few episodes just because of Holly and some of the acting, but overall not too hopeful.

I am not sure about the show, so I will at least give it a few episodes.I can say it wasn't a sure fire winner.IMO, it was too busy. Too many strange threads all at once.
robot boy, cryo-sleep/chem-sleep boss, alien visitor, 'faked' suicide, pregnancy, conspiracy within ISEA, marital stress

I was shocked to see the dude from Helix! It seemed like a slow start. The previews seem to indicate some more action and intrigue. It reminded me so much of A.I. I am sure I am not just watching it because Halle Berry is in it. (Or, am I?)

Halle Berry is probably the last reason for my interest. I don't dislike her, in general, but it's not like her doing a TV show is that revolutionary these days.

It's been sitting on my DVR since it aired, but for some reason I just haven't been able to muster the enthusiasm to watch it.
Same here.

I ended up deleting it, after watching the first 10 minutes or so.

I've also been feeling the same way about other summer shows I've been stockpiling on my DVR, like Defiance and The Last Ship.

The only present tv shows I've had any enthusiasm for, is 24 (which is ending in two days).

I finally got around to the pilot episode, and it feels like a rehash of sci-fi tropes, especially the odd "Artificial Intelligence" angle that was not promoted at all.

I'd rather be watching future seasons of Defying Gravity". LOL!

You must have read my post, because that's almost exactly what I said. :D

Seemed okay to me. It's a summer tv show so I don't expect ground breaking stuff.I'm a little glad that it won't be on the space station much because that floating anti gravity stuff was as bad as it gets.

I thought it was fair. There were some character actions that didn't make much sense, but were obviously done to get the person from point A to B, like the husband losing his cool at the presentation, as if he didn't see such objections coming. Molly's decision to erase the video footage also played out a bit too quickly, but I guess they had to move the story along.

I'll probably check out the next few episodes to see where things go.

The second episode didn't cover much new territory until the final 10 minutes. I get a vibe akin to X-Files' overarching conspiracy.

If not alien colonization / invasion then alien need to avoid extinction by taking up residence on Earth in some form. The robot boy seems like he's being pursued as a vessel for the aliens as an alternative to humans being taken over.

Mmm...the story is moving along at least, not dragging things out as far as motives and who's to be trusted. I still don't know if it will keep me watching to the end though.

I thought the third one was real slow and uninteresting. This is not going to be good I'm afraid.

Halle Berry is probably one of my least favorite actresses, but she's actually doing fairly well with Extant.

The obvious AI inferences can't be missed, but as mentioned above, it's a summer series. I'm enjoying it and if it fades away, never to return, won't be missed.
