Are openings still available? I'm already invited to a different Dolby Atmos event, but for curiosity's sake...

I'll put you all on the list. Dan H can you PM me your full name? Ray, I'll be interested to hear if you hear any differences. The people who attended the NY demo said there was a difference between the Atmos speakers and the direct firing ones. I didn't hear a difference in out room.

FYI I will be sending an email to everyone in this thread with details on where to meet to get onto the show floor before it opens on Friday to have a private demo.

Crap. I thought for some reason that this was on Thursday. I won't be there on Friday... Bummer. Short CEDIA for me this year.

I know. It was kind of a last minute thing. Might do some keynote stuff Wednesday, and then have all day Thursday, but that is it. I fly out at 6:15am on Friday.

Adam,
I will give you my $.02...I actually liked the Atmos enabled speakers at our demo better...seemed to have more space

Some of the NYC people thought the opposite, so I will be interested to see their install guide.

OK I just sent out the info with the meeting location. FYI it is just for you guys. Meet Friday at 7:30 and you will be escorted to Dolby's booth where there will be light refreshments and the demo followed by the opportunity to talk to engineers, product managers and R&D. It will end at 9:00 when the show floor opens. I included my phone number if you have any questions.

Thank you to Adam, Ron and HTF for the chance to attend the Dolby Atmos Demo at CEDIA.
This was a really fun meeting other HTF members face to face, and chatting it up. Now for the feedback I promised Adam.
Here is what I found.....once again I preferred the Atmos enabled speakers...just seemed to have way more space then the direct firing speakers.
I did get a chance to speak with Craig Eggers and Brett Crockett about the New York Demo and asked why most those people preferred the direct firing speakers ..they told me that the ceiling in the NY demo was to absorbent..that was why most preferred direct firing.
Thanks again HTF..and it was great meeting the members that attended and putting a face to the screen name.

I am also thankful for the invitation and the extra effort to coordinate with Dolby Labs and all the attendees. There is a very nice Regal RPX/Dolby Atmos cinema near my office, where I've attended numerous Atmos encoded movies over the last year or so.. My company's office includes a demo room, with constant image height projection, and a 7.1 THX Select setup, with dual subs. I have been specifically analytical and aware of cinema sound for over 30 years. The Dolby Atmos system is a genuine enhancement to the cinema experience, if implemented correctly in the auditorium, and the sound track is well engineered.

The Atmos enabled speakers in the demo were my preference as well. Room conditions will always contribute or detract from any audio and/or video system design. Dolby's demo booth will not match many consumer entertainment spaces, although it would be desirable in many regards. I expect a relatively low (~/

I don't know how many other Atmos demos you guys went to, but I think I got to just about every one of them. While the "enabled" speakers sounded good for some material, all-in-all I would highly recommend timbre matched overhead speakers if you can swing it.

The Andrew Jones designed Atmos "enabled" speakers from Pioneer sounded surprisingly good for the money, when just used as regular speakers. If you're on a "sort of" budget and cannot install ceiling speakers, I would put these on the short list.
