Being new to the 3D arena I just realized that my Yamaha AVR has HDMI 1.3a inputs which apparently do not carry the 3D signal from my Panasonic 3D player to the Samsung set which has HDMI 2.0 inputs. I'll try a direct connection later. Looks like I'll need a new AVR after all......

Some Blu-ray players have two HDMI outputs for that reason...one to the TV with the 3D signal, another to the receiver with everything else. Might be cheaper than a new AVR if you're otherwise satisfied with the one you have.

Josh,
Thanks for the info! I had ordered an Oppo Blu-ray 103 player earlier today and indeed it has 2 HDMI outputs. Will do this first. Thanks again!

I just got the same player about a month ago and it's awesome. Hope you love it as much as I do.

If you're interested in going region-free someday, you can get a chip to plug into the back USB port for about $60 that allows you to switch from Region A to B and C.

Some 1.3 AVR can pass 3D. I would try to see if it will. Lots of Yamaha and Onkyo top models have no issue passing 3D.

The only difference 1.3 to 1.4 is 1.4 is guaranteed to be high-speed switching.

Sam,

Tried it with my Yamaha  but no go. Plugged the HDMI direct into the One Connect box of the Samsung and no problems. Used the RIO 2 3D disc to try it out.
