I'd been excitedly waiting the past few months for the classic 1963 MGM/UA adventure film KINGS OF THE SUN to have its blu-ray debut. I'd done my homework, I thought, checking several sites that claimed that this release had French subs, but also an option for NONE. It arrived today and the subs are definitely non-removable. Besides that, the image is weak, lacking sharpness and decent definition. Adventure film fans, stay away from his one! I was fooled by Filmedia, who did away with this annoying practice after EXODUS, and I can't say enough good about their wonderful recent 55 DAYS AT PEKING. I can't say enough bad about this debacle from Sidonis. Some will claim that rights issues force the French companies to burn in the subs, but why don't they force the German, Japanese and Italian companies to do the same, or French Filmedia for that matter? I wonder how the French would feel it the ONLY WAY they could get LE JOUR SE LEVE is with burned in English translation subs splattered all over the image!
