The use of original art on the covers makes a HUGE difference. All of these Kino titles have great covers - it adds a layer of stylishness to the release regardless of the film. For years I hated that God awful MGM DVD art, to the point that I got rid of the case altogether and stuck the disc in a binder. Won't have to do this now :)

Be aware that is not the Blu-ray cover art.

There is no art work released as of yet.

However, I anticipate the art work should be similar.

Pre-Order is in.
First saw this movie at Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood back in late 1979 as a single US Marine paying a visit to Hollywood (long ways from Aurora, Ohio) and spending some time with the wonderful folks at the Hollywood USO. Actually ended up taking in two showings (or 1 1/2 as I had missed the first 15 min or so of the first showing. They let me stay for the second.

Also can't help but wonder how much the producers of Armageddon ripped off Meteor ?

Booked and played this in our Theatres back then. At the time it was a really good film and did better than fair business. Especially in the Drive-ins. I think this was one of the last AIP films. Ordered and glad I can replace my Laser with a BD. (Notice I used BD and not BRD)

Saw this with my dad at the local ABC screen 2, evening show. I like the opening of the film and fade dissolve with sail boat against an ocean of stars.

Just received THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY and METEOR today. It seems the sound of these is DTS. METEOR I would swear was originally in stereo, but not this Blu Ray. THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY sounds very good in the 5.1 sound, but probably would be better in a lossy format.

Is Meteor in 5.1? That was the word given here a month or so ago.

My Blu-ray copy of Meteor arrived today and I just popped it the player. The audio is DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono. I knew I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Looks like I have to keep my Laserdisc still. It's the only place that I know of that includes Dolby surround encoded 2.0 audio in PCM format.

The video quality appears to be good on my old 46" 1080i TV.

I'm going to try and resist as there;s no 4 track discrete 3/1.0. Typical wonder where they got the source from? 35 optical or mag prints?

I see both 20th Century Fox and MGM logos on the back. I bet that Kino Lorber just put out what they were given. What a shame.

Nope. I received my copy today and Meteor is DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono. That is the only audio track that is included on the disc. I was really hoping to at least get the same 2.0 stereo track from the Laserdisc.

My copy was mono. Gosh, I hope they do TARAS BULBA in stereo. BULBA may have played here in mono, but I think it had a 70mm blowup for Europe with 6 track sound. The old MGM DVD is stereo, so I hold out hope. No excuse of METEOR as it was at least 4 track sound or Dolby encoded, which was getting common by 1979.

Posted by the insider on July 6:
From the currently announced list - Meteor, Great Train Robbery and Mulholland Falls will include the 5.1 option. Most of the others will have 2.0 stereo or 2.0 mono.

This was later corrected and brought to my attention by Crawdaddy:

After the announcment of a 5.1 and reading on IMDB that the original sound was 4 track stereo, I though a 5.1 mix was possible.
If this was mono, not much more to be expected. Apologies

METEOR was never released in 4-track MAG or Dolby Stereo- it was a mono release all the way. Mono is the original mix and the way it's supposed to sound.

The laserdisc claims stereo, but I haven't listened to it in years. It could easily be a misprint. If not, it's a faux upmix.
Not unusual, as it was like the wild west in the 90s when it came to faux laserdisc soundtrack upmixes, with laserdisc producers monkeying around with the original mixes, or inserting sections from a stereo music score albums (sometimes with totally different takes).

I'm glad the original mono is on the disc, and in a high res DTS MA format, to boot.

Pretty disappointing as a movie, but it still has one of my favorite quotable Sean Connery lines... one that has to be an ad lib.

This is a post from what I see people referring to as the "other forum" made by ditcin:
Well, if it is MONO the company employs *******s. I left several messages about the sound and for someone to contact me. I told them I was the consultant on the old Image Laserdisc which I made sure had the 4.0 mix. Not calling me back with questions is one thing - not looking in to it and getting the 4.1 mix is lazy.http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=9743310&postcount=7
I have the image Laserdisc and the surround mix that is encoded on the 2.0 PCM audio track sounds deliberate. If it was done after the fact, it was done very well. I have read in multiple places however that a 4.0 magentic sound mix was created for the original release and that was what was used for the Image Laserdisc.
