Screen size will no doubt be expanded at some earlier time?

Regular Sony CRT 28" placed directly below the stage is used and I appreciate the size of the projected image when I use the projector (rarely over the years).

Still got hours more to finish on the stage and refit a new baffle wall up in place and with any means of cheap absorbent materials at hand.

Projector is fitted behind the wall as to isolate fan noise and the little extra bit further back increases image size and looks cinema like.

I went for real cinema seats Irwin rockers that are nice and comfortable for a STAR TREK Marathon.

Laserdiscs are nicely up scaled by the Onkyo TX SR-875 where I'm nether pleased or displeased with it it works and I'm chuffed with it.

Mostly pro cinema gear integrated with consumer as I like the cinema processor touch when working as projectionist years ago, I often found the gear very pleasingly nice and always wanted to own it for myself.

Most of the AVR and processors are racked up next to my seat row A1. Row A2 is centre seat and row A3 right seat. Row B1 left back row, B2 centre B3 right.

Below matrix surround that I use on some program content seams to work nicely with the sound reflecting off the seat buckets spans outwards and with the other surrounds playing creates nice bubble of surround. Some sounds appear to sound below but its only an illusion, but better than what my friends have as they aren't really into home cinema.

GRAVITY in 1080i on the projector pleases me in 2d with 11 channels actively playing dialogue pans across stage channels and around the rooms surround speaker arrays with nice precision,

sub bass is amble enough and controlled aligned all channels on the Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System Crossover/monitor.

GRAVITY on the CRT 28" Sony is just as still pleasing its the sound in the room that fills the room up with chesty bass mid kick or slam and depth on the slower deeper notes.

Some off-cuts of MDF I have used for fitting inside the seat buckets with x6 Dayton Puck shakers that WOW my seals buzz vibrate and have startling kick that depends on the frequency. Seat back will have certain feel armrest and seat bucket or whole seat simmering shuddering. Great on re-entry in GRAVITY at some points feels like riding the escape capsule pod.

Most of the other amps are housed in the kitchen, If you can't stand the Heat get out of the kitchen.

Cheap priced AVR can be effective for outboard amps by just using the internal setting 5.1 (6channels) or 7.1s (7channels) and other amps takes a bit setting up and all is working very well.

All most of the amps have return wires back to the THX sound system, so I can monitor and check for frequency/level/phase alignment.

Port hole building and testing a few years ago

10479153_10152519415875149_501674233252793736_n.jpg

Marked out where I wanted to fit the projector behind the hole. Got long wall-drill bit and it took a few hours to do and made one heck of mess! That I had to later sweep up and wash the floor over to get all the brick dust cleaned-up.

Used a few off-cuts of MDF to make neat clean port hole and lots of liquid inside so the four pieces all stay together and damn, I can't even budge it,

Later on in the port build a simple glass picture frame was fitted up on the room side and wow, instant isolation of the projector fan noise. Sounds like a cinema to me.
Projector was fitted on rack shelf. Perfect and at small cost.

Its about around 172" from projector to the screen area.

The bed sheet has served fine and will be replaced with a fixed screen that can be lifted up and locked to the ceiling when not in use. I have some Spandex white material that looks great and is transparent enough and I'm least bit worried abut HF loss as the THX sound system has HF screen loss boast.

Screen is so, so around close to 110" and I'm pleased with how it looks filling nearly all the room width up and the matched JBL behind feels and sounds so cinematic, with stage bass feel and sub bass balanced carefully so it doesn't over-taxi the stage channels rather than it supports certain scenes smoothly with kick slam and depth.

Fitting up some cable conduit to get most of these wires and cables out of my way. Only problem is new gear needs new conduit lol as more cables and wires are being puled though the tiny hole. At least well over 150 cables. I don't like to think about it, lol.

Glass picture fame with wall plugs and screwed up in place and the glass is liquid nailed so it won't wobble/vibrate due to the SPL db in the room.

The projector is second/hand as has some minor marks that don't affect the image. We have more dust in our eyes on daily basis did you know that?

Extra speakers a friend gave to me and I have used them for only the bass mid driver for surround sub bass extension use and WOW need to EQ them down a small bit but damn they give APOLLO 13 dts THX laserdisc a heck of slam kick jolt on chapters 11 to 13 for "go for launch".
The sub bass surround is connected to the outboard side wall surround arrays with the Dolby CP45 and other CP45 is use for rear back surrounds and all can be customized for optimum best for the film.

Wow, haven't seen a SDDS processor used in a home theater before! For your next project I think you need to find a way to tension the screen, will make a huge improvement in picture quality. Not sure if a fixed screen would work because of your CRT behind. Maybe build some sort of frame that's attached to the ceiling with hinges and folds up out of the way?

My friends always grumble about that. lol Its a temporary screen bed sheet. Once I get to new screen it will be stabled to the wooden screen frame so hopeful, (knock on wood) it won't have cresses as I'd be gutted, lol.I'll have the screen on hinges so I can lift up and lock it to the ceiling otherwise my cat will soon have his claws into it. He tried on the bed sheet a few times but that is only £4.99 bed sheet. The stuff is £24.00, I hope it looks shiny with the projected images as the bed sheet has slight duller white look bit still watchable.

Did you know bed sheets was used in cinema in the very early days and would often be washed and after so many washes would shrink and rip apart. Plastic perforated didn't come about until the 1950's.

The principles of the screen hasn't really changed much just different paint propitiates used on screens in cinemas or different types for home to cut the costs down as screen needn't cost half the cost of projector.

As to when I get motivated for buying the timber for the projector frame lol I could have built myself 10 screens, I have had the Spandex 3 or 4 meters of it? since last year, I have lots on my plate, like we all do at times. I'll get around to it very soon.

Those SDDS processors are cool and how odd I never heard an SDDS 8 at London. Well they didn't actually say here in this cinema in SDDS 8channel, like the way they advertised 70mm Dolby Stereo THX. pity really, I'd like hear that U-571 or Terminator 3, and many more least 200 titles released in SDDS 8 all the rest was SDDS 6.

The chap at Sony SDDS UK, was helpful at guiding me though emails at getting up and running. And passwords for some hidden features on the processor that I use. I was lucky to have got it so cheap on ebaY a few years ago as new there around $15,000.

Playing this evening
DROP ZONE (1994) DVD region 2, Dolby Stereo Digital / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System / JBL 49 speakers
Wow the 747 explosive scene during the hijacking was pressurized in THX.

The skydiving sound effects sounded like a lot of fun and Foley punch effects packed a kick in Dolby, THX with overhead matrix surrounds and below surrounds proved cracking entertainment.
End credits "these are the times" has nice rock beat by INXS,

Bass mid is felt when the plane to Lisbon lands at Casablanca, on chapter 3, dialouge is clearly understood.

Rick's Cafe Americain, crowds of voices sound distant and Sam on the piano sounds clear.

Chapter 27, play "La Marseillaise." Play it! Gives an uplifting joy at 85db

"See what I mean? If Laszlo's presence in a cafe can inspire this unfortunate demonstration...what more will his presence in Casablanca can bring on? I advise this place be shut up at once.

But everyone is having such good time>
Yes much too good a time.
The place is to be closed.
But I've have no excuse to close it.
Find one.

[Whistle blowing] sounds loud.

Ordered the "AuraSound AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker Tactile Transducer" off ebay, yesterday and should arrive around (Saturday 26th July 2014) maybe or maybe 2 to 4 weeks since this has to come overseas form USA.

I'm nether unhappy or displeased with the x6 Dayton "Puck" fitted into the seat buckets of the Irwin rocker seats, that provides a lot of bass mid feel buzz that feels like static electricity across the seat back and in the armrests, down to shuddering vibration shaking in the seat bucket. Kinder like what I feel when travelling on the bus and feeling the engine resonating though the whole bus at different frequencies.

I have few options to mounting the Aura, all of which will be trail and error testing and figure it out as each install is different.

First, double sided-tape stuck down inside and the Aura stuck on it might hold in place to suss it out over the "Puck" that I'll be comparing it with, (I'm not selling the Pucks I might find a way to fit them into the seat back)?

Second option open to me is, Lay the Aura in position in the seat bucket and mark the holes. Then drill though with tiny holes.

Rubber rings came to mind to isolate the Aura from the seat bucket metal. Then use threaded screws and nut and tighten them each and all up.

A "Puck" does transmit to adjacent seats in each row if, one or two are disconnected and I sit on seat that isn't connected I can mildly feel the one next to me.

Claim is x4 "puck" can do 30Ilbs per 1 foot.

Claim for the Aura is that it can do 30Ilbs per each.

So I guess each seat at present might be around 7.5Ilbs that scares me now and then as I'm not expecting the film to have such a thrilling low end slam/kick/depth from such a tiny device.

Aura AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker arrived this afternoon.

I soon discovered wow this thing is a bit larger than the present Dayton x6 Pucks in the seat buckets? Is this going to fit into the seat bucket?

After removing the seat cushion of one seat to try it out. Row A 1 left side seat, my seat. Well once I get x5 more each seat will have the same impact.

It fitted in place and I did a quick check with seat cushion fixed back into place, It fits.

Next up electric drill and metal drill bit.

Marked where I needed to drill and drilling the holes each took a few seconds.

The screw and nut bit is a bit long but that is all I had for now, until I can go down the hardware store and buy shorter ones x24 screws and nuts.

Its fitted in placed and played a scene form GRAVITY (2013) dtsHDMA 5.1with (expansion surround) re-entry. Dr. Ryan Stone, reaches forwards to release the jettison switch separate the escape pod from the space station. The seat shimmers shudders shakes from the seat bucket to the seat back and armrests. It feels like being in the seat with her, except the whole room isn't rotating around and around I don't think I can deal with that and it would cost a lot.

Also tested original theatrical STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE (1979) laserdisc to DVD-RW as the bluray Dolby TrueHD 7.1 is incredible flawed mixed.

The U.S.S. Enterprise is caught up inside a worm-hole. The bridge vibrates and shimmers and different waves of low frequency travel up and down the low end scale.

When Enterprise, encounters "the cloud" the dong "Blaster Beam" it feels like the seat is about to be launched into space solid 41Hz buzzing my ass and pressing on my body.

"the blaster beam" used in the score down at solid 41Hz buzzed my ass and pressed on my body,

I think the test has been successful. x5 more of these to add on to the other seats now. if I can only find way of fitting two per seat? I know! Fit one on the inside and the other to the outside of the seat bucket both lined up and long threaded screw and nut, Ha, ha, umm no. One is sufficient t enough per seat. :P

Might like to try some Vipers launching SENSURROUND bluray Battlestar Galactica (1979).

Been looking at what I can possible do next with the home THX cinema?

New design for spacing of the seating and new wooden floor for lower row and riser for the back row seating.

Spacing of back row from back wall to seat 26". Spacing between back row seat armrest to back of seat at front row 24".

After now getting some hands on use with the Aura tactile shakers inside the seat-buckets, I'm convinced these could be fitted upside down in shallow floor but, (overview) it will decrease the headroom height of the room by at least 3" as the floor would have to be around that depth, So I'd won't bother and I'll have to find another way around it?

I need some vibration in the floor that can only be felt not hard as much thou I suspect a small tiny db would be audible but mostly felt with feet in contact with the floor. Just as the same as when the body is in contact with the seat its felt!

The additional sets of JBL control 1, placed along the walls, ceiling for Dolby Atmos or (Atmos ready) as well as some extras for surround expansion placed underneath the seats will reflect sound upwards and reflect off the seat bucket and spread outwards with a defused effect that would make "you look below".

Additional sub bass surround extension placed at the back of back row seating at the sides.

Baffle Wall extending from floor to ceiling to extend low end frequency response and give sound from each LCR even and smooth without sound jumps when sound pans from one stage channel to the next.

Screen Spandex materiel fixed to wooden frame stapled. Screen will be approx 9 wide by 5 feet would be well suited for the room size.

If additional JBL control 12SR come my way I'll fit those in for left-centre right-centre.

Total number of speakers? Hard to tell where I might call it quits. :P

Need For Speed (2014) has arrived and rehearsing it. dtsHDMA 5.1 / surround expansion above below surround. JBL 49 speakers / Lucasfim Ltd THX Sound System.

Okay show time. 19:40 hours.

Seems that the UK release is dtsHDMA 5.1 well it was cheap. I'll buy it again and sell the 5.1. Well expect snag is UK release is region B locked so is the (region A locked) nice scam. Get paying consumers to pay out and you give the UK a 5.1. Well I'm only 2 mins into the film, I don't mind pausing it and being distracted which I have, no thanks to Disney / Buena Vista.

Not a bad sound scene at 018:00 Dino, leaves Toby's car work shop, sound of the car on stage right then as camera turns around 180 degrees, with car still on stage right then drives pans off to right surround arrays driving away. Pro-logic II movie mode is switched on for any centre pans or left to right pans if they happen?

Picture quality is fine.

Story is good. I like it I'm getting into it.

0:30:04 Dino, dialogue pan from centre stage to stage right 0:30:10

The race along the road with the three super cars, with traffic sounds horns beeping and the sound the rushing air whooshing down the left right stage fronts and surrounds, wow. Intense with the score as well.

Sense changed wiring to series to get impedance/ohms on the volt metre where the amp would like.

Now playing THE PEACEMAKER (1997) Dolby Stereo Digital with expansion surround below and overhead surrounds. 49 JBL speakers / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System.

Rear back surround on the Dolby CP45 is routed to the overhead and centre front is routed to below surround placed underneath the seating,

The opening credits where the train leaves the train station passes underneath the seats with cuffing/puffing smoke and piston sound that made me look below as the camera pulls upwards the train exits below the scope framing and pans off onto the surrounds as part of centre phantom sound image and other sounds on the side-wall surrounds and some foggy defused on the overhead makes the films action sound effects and score engaging,

Switching on PLIIx to expend any centre phantom imaging to be located behind works but careful care in setting up so sounds smoothly pass or rise up and down in levels appear to flow from surround speaker surround speaker circling around above and below.

With Atmos coming out I can't say I'm too pleased with the amount of channels it offers for the same old thing, expensive AVR's that will be outdated within months and selling on ebay for peanuts.

I like my set-up and my cat can also sense below surround, wow and that's a cat as they have best hearing period.

Yes, yes listening to the train scene again with PLIIx added in and yes I know what its doing to the common side wall surrounds. I got an idea sussed out.

I need to wire up the extra decoding on the second CP45 that is wired to the rear back surrounds and see what happens to panning sound image to see if I can route it to be positioned underneath the back row seating.

I have the extra surrounds placed under the back row but has yet not been connected up. Switching the PLIIx OFF the puffing smoke from the funnel passes underneath the front row as the PLIIx is doing some extracting of + and - phase and kitchen sink as well, to the side surrounds.

The puffing smoke train passes clearly off to back surround with wide area, since I'm seated at front row.

Still cool action film mix from 1997.

You're lucky you got the 3D version of NEED FOR SPEED. We only got the 2D version with rumors that possibly the 3D version may be released in October according to some web sites.

There's an actual 3D version of Need For Speed, when did that happen, last i checked it was 2.5D, i'd love to see the proper 3D version, nah don't worry about this post, it's a dig at the Hollywood 3D system, you aren't missing a thing by having it only in 2D.

Mate if you want It I'd give it to you. But sadly its (region B locked) and it doesn't have the dtsHDMA 7.1 as it was mixed released in and only USA has the 7.1 but sadly its (region A locked) so I guess we have bit of compromise here.

It's disney studio of their way of screwing with the consumers on both sides.

I'd sooner keep the 2D and wish I could send you the 3D for free. But then you'd be suck with dtsHDMA 5.1.
