But they released the first 3 seasons of blu-ray. There´s no reason for not releasing the fourth season on blu-ray.

In principle there is nothing that says Paramount/CBS has to continue releasing any further seasons of H50 on bluray.

There has been previous precedents of the bluray being discontinued after two seasons have already been released previously on bluray, such as: CSI and Rookie Blue

(Offhand, I can't think of any tv shows which discontinued the bluray after previously releasing three seasons on bluray).

There is at least one possible reason: if blu-ray sales didn't meet expectations. I know this is another label, but look at the show Damages. Only the first season was released in both formats. To buy any other season, blu-ray is not an option.

(For that matter).

There's a long list of shows which were discontinued on bluray after releasing a single bluray season set, such as:

- Damages
- 2 Broke Girls
- Grey's Anatomy
- The Unit
- White Collar
- Lie To Me
- Scrubs
- How I Met Your Mother
- Human Target
- Rescue Me
- NCIS: Los Angeles
- Burn Notice
- Nip Tuck
- The Killing
- Stargate Universe
- etc ...

Hmmm! Some of those (like Scrubs) I wasn't even aware ever had any blu-ray seasons out there!

And with Glee's ratings erosion, I suspect it'll only be DVD, too. I'll be interested to see if that's the case. Modern Family may remain on Blu.

Looking through the amazon us and uk listings, there's no official release dates (yet) for possible bluray versions of Glee season 5 and Modern Family season 5. (Their uk dvd official release dates are September 29 and 15 respectively).

If these recent possible bluray discontinuations turn out to be true in the end, then this is probably the last gasp of tv on bluray for current shows that are not sci-fi/fantasy or "premium cable". (At least in america). One show to keep an eye on over the next year, is The Blacklist. If this "last gasp" conjecture has any truth, then it wouldn't be too surprising if season 2 of The Blacklist never sees a bluray version released (in America). (The season 1 bluray is being released next month on August 12).

In the case of Warner, at times I wonder why they're releasing some bluray season sets of current shows as bluray/dvd/digital combo packs. Since mid-2012, shows like: Person of Interest, Big Bang Theory, Revolution, The Following, Vampire Diaries, Arrow, etc ... have been done as bluray/dvd/+ combo packs. On the other hand during that same time period (since mid-2012), there were other shows that were not released as bluray/dvd/+ combo packs such as: Nikita, Fringe, Supernatural, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Falling Skies, Chuck, etc ...The only semi-plausible explanation I can guess offhand, would be that Warner considers these bluray/dvd combo pack shows as "borderline" cases, where they don't have as much confidence in the season sets selling on their own as a bluray without a dvd copy.In the cases of Nikita, Fringe, Chuck, and Star Wars: Clone Wars being released as a bluray without a dvd copy, I strongly suspect they were released in this manner because these shows were ending anyways in 2012 or 2013. There was probably no point anymore in "piggybacking" the bluray with a dvd copy, as an attempt to attract new customers to buy the bluray of a tv show that is ending its run.

I´m disappointed that the fourth Season won´t be released on Blu-ray. Probably the selling numbers were too weak of Season 3. With the great Hawaiian scenery you have to have the series on blu-ray.

For sure.

For seasons 2 and 3, I was somewhat surprised H50 was even released at all on bluray in the first place.

IIRC, season 1 was originally released as a Best Buy exclusive back in late 2011. Eventually it had a general release in 2012. (Not exactly a vote of confidence if something has be initially released as a BB exclusive).

I suspect H50 was most likely a "borderline" case for Paramount/CBS all along.

Back in very early-2012, I thought about picking up the season 1 bluray, but BB had it on backorder at the time. Eventually I saw it at Walmart, but didn't buy it at the time due to its $50 price tag. In the meantime, I completely forgot about the season 1 bluray, and eventually watched all the season 1 episodes in reruns. (I only started watching H50 during season 2).

Not a surprise. Honestly, I think Fox regretted giving the show a two season renewal because inevitably they were stuck with a show that fell much farther and faster than they possibly could have suspected.

I would have to agree.

This past weekend I picked up the season 1 H50 bluray, after finding it in a local dump bin for $14. (It was the same price as the dvd version in the exact same dump bin).

The bluray looks way better than the original first-run broadcasts and reruns I was watching previously a few years ago.

Absolutely. I reviewed all three Blu-ray seasons of this show because the HD photography looks so stupendous on Blu-ray, far outclassing the broadcast quality on CBS. When I got the press release for a DVD only release for season four, I passed on it.
