Hi,

I'm new to the site and new to the sound bars section.
I have a TV integrated to the closet in my room, and I would like to purchase a sound bar for (much) better audio.

Before I buy any, I would like to know a few things which will surely affect my decision whether to purchase a sound bar or not.

I would like to place the sound bar on the opposite wall from the TV (a distance of approximately 3 meters).
I have a mini-pc with a BlueTooth dongle in the closet, which is connected to the TV via Hdmi cable.
I would like to transfer the video only through the Hdmi to the TV, and the audio only, through the BlueTooth dongle to the sound bar.

1) Is it even possible sending the video from the pc using Hdmi and audio from the pc using the BlueTooth dongle?
2) If it is, is it possible that the video and audio won't be in sync?
3) Will I suffer from a decrease in the audio quality due to the distance of 3 meters (even though BlueTooth works with devices located in up to 10 meters radius)?

One last question, which one is better:

ONKYO LS-B50 - http://www.eu.onkyo.com/en/products/ls-b50-95465.html

JBL SB400 - http://www.jbl.com/estore/jbl/us/produc ... 400_JBL_US

Thanks in advance,
Idan.

Can't help you with the bluetooth stuff (tho I really suspect the answer is "No, you can't make that work with dongles") but I really recommend keeping the soundbar in the same 'plane' as the TV. Sounds like you will have visuals in front of you and sound behind you, which will be subtly, perhaps even recognizably, disconcerting.

I'm curious to why you would like to set it up this way. The problem that I see is the left sounds are going to come out the right side and the right out the left if you put it behind the listening area. That's assuming that you can get the audio to transmit through the bluetooth to the soundbar in the first place. I have never tried this type of setup so I just don't know if it will work. I've never been a big fan of wireless anything with audio products but maybe it's gotten better recently. Normally if the connection is good you shouldn't really have lower quality especially if using a soundbar. The problem that I always had using a wireless connection was interference of some kind causing lower volume, no volume and other issues. I think if you want something that is going to be no fuss every time then just wire it in.

PC can send video over HDMI and audio over Bluetooth. I do it all the time.Mac can do it as well. Not tried with an iPad (I think the AV adapter kills all other connections). Will it work?Yes.Should you do it?No. (There are delays in the audio signal. The new codec AptX might solve it...not tried, but both devices have to have AptX)

I'm with you Sam, but it sounded like he wanted some kind of Dongle to plug in to the speaker to receive those details, and that sounds like a mess.

I use a generic $7 usb dongle on my laptop. The software was already there. The dongle works both ways. Connect my phone, send photos to the comp Connect a speaker, listen to music on my AVR via a Belkin Bluetooth Music Receiver.

Hi all,

Thank you for your replies.

First of all I would like to clarify, I need to place the sound bar opposite from the TV since the TV is in the closet (wiring is a problematic). I know that I will face left-right issue, I intend to flip the sound bar upside down, and solve it that way.

By the way, what is the recommended height for placing it? Is close to the ceiling recommended?

Schan, I tried to google the Aptx, since I'm not familiar with it. I saw devices which support (or include) Aptx. Are you talking about a downloadable codec?

Again, thank you all.

AptX is an add-on Bluetooth spec. It is there to increase bandwidth for "CD quality". Anytime you increase bandwidth, speed increases. Enough to not have audio lag? Not a clue.Dumb question...If you already have your TV in the closet, and soundbars mount with the TV, how do you not have room with the TV? Boston Acoustics has one the TV sits on.

Maybe I'm not understanding the issue.

You want the sound for your TV to come from the opposite side of the room... and what you're worried about is if the sync will be off and if left and right sounds will still be left and right... from behind you... at the ceiling?

I'm not sure a soundbar mounted upside down at the top of the wall is going to sound good at all. Even if you flipped it over and aimed it down all the sound is going to be coming from above/behind you...I think I would pass on that. I'm with Sam and others that if you have room for a TV how is the wiring problematic? You obviously have power for the TV...now all you need is an optical cable running between the TV and bar and you're done.
