In the absence of decent RCA audio cables to connect a device (e.g. CD player) to an amp, could you use digital coax cables? If so what effect on the quality of the signal is likely?

I use component for analog MCH. It is like this...All Kobe is beef, not all beef is Kobe.All signals accept noise, not all signals need shielding...ergoAll shielded cables are RCA, not all RCA are shielded.

Yes, it should be fine. Typically, digital coax cables are identical to regular analog RCA ones, possibly with better shielding, possibly not.
