I am only using 5 of the mono block amps in the Adcom. I was wondering if I could split the sub output on my Onkyo and use the remaining 2 monoblock in the adcom to drive one Sub woofer with single voice coil. I was thinking of running 2 sets of wires to the sub.

Any thoughts or comments?

Might be a dumb thing but thought I would ask.

Thanks

That would be called bi-amping, and net you 3db more output. Volume doubling means...every 3db...is twice the power. In other words...probably don't need both.

Sam , you should read the question again. He's asking about running two channels to a single voice coil. Meaning, one fried amp. No, do NOT do that. nONONONONONO.

That can be done if, and only if, the pre-amp portion can send UN altered signals to both. No, an RCA splitter doesn't count. Too much chance of noise.

The way I understand the question is that he wans to run the output of two amp channels, parallel, into a single connection on a speaker (a presumably passive sub). So, two channels of amplification into one speaker connection. This could destroy the amp, depending on what kind of protection circuits it has.

That is why I said if, and only if, the preamp can control what is going on.Best not to. This falls into the realm of "if you have to ask..."
