The volume increase button is requiring a whole lot of press to work now. I did some googling and found it's a common problem. I like what this guy is suggesting here: http://justin.thehaggertys.net/logitech-harmony-880-surgery/

I also found a site the will repair the 880, but unfortunately, they want to make a profit. :P They did mention that when replacing the battery to be sure to use the logitech battery and not some generic brand. Last time I looked at it, it looked like a battery that would be generally available. Has anyone used a non-logitech battery?

The battery seems fine right now, but thought I'd ask about it for future use.

I have to buy the epoxy and than I'm gonna give it a go. I'll post the results when I'm done.

I opened up the remote and added the acrylic glue. I'll let it cure overnight and find out if the problem is fixed. I've had a cracked screen from one to many drops. Opening the remote revealed it was the external protective screen that was cracked, and not the LCD screen. That's a bit of good news.

And….it works. I just tried the volume up button and its now back to normal pressure. I did encounter one problem in the process. When I mixed the acrylics together I applied it to a total of 5 button contacts. The first one I applied it to was the the volume button which was causing the most severe problem.

Several hours later I looked at the contacts and saw that all the contacts, except one, had a raised dome of acrylic. Of course the one in which the acrylic had flattened out was the volume button, the button that I was doing this whole process for. I guess in the few seconds that it took me to apply the acrylic to the first button, the remaining acrylic thickened. So I did it again for the first button, this time waiting a minute before applying the acrylic. Now I have a dome of acrylic on the volume button too.

Only time will tell how long this fix lasts. I have noticed the acrylic does not dry rock hard, that I can crease it slightly with my fingernail. I wonder if repeated (and volume will be used frequently) pressings will flatten it out?

This beats buying a new logitech remote. Of course, I wouldn't say no to winning the logitech remote in the current contest, however, I'm one of those guys that never wins in a game of chance. Hmmm, come to think of it, I don't win in games of skill either. :P

Ok, the volume definitely works better, but the click is gone when pressing the button. Actually I can't remember if there was a click on the volume and channel buttons, I think there was, but can't remember.

I do now the 8 programmable buttons at the top have clicks and I did do the glue thing with the bottom right button, since that was where I had the "list" button for my dvr. It got used a lot and was starting to act like the volume button. It works better, but the click is gone.

I guess that's better than "the thrill is gone."
