I was hoping this was a blu-ray announcement. My original set always has and still plays so this is of no use to me.

I finally have a player that plays my old set (straight through on all but one movie, and I can skip over the bad part). But geez...I saw the thread title and expected it to be a Blu-ray announcement, too.

With a $20.00 price tag right now it is a no brainer to get rid of those double sided discs

I think a blu ray counterpart to this release would have been wiser. I do own the DVD set of this with all the movies playing properly...I might as well hold onto that, or do I get this with the titles spread over 4 discs.. Ive got time to think it over :)

was thinking the exact same thing, after the past few years, guess I was expecting a little more from Uni, 2012 we get the classic monsters set, last year we get Tremors and Chucky blu sets and this year looks like we are only going to get Dracula (1979) bit of a letdown unless they announce a Sequel to Classic Monsters.

Would have loved for one of the Major players to step up and release Hammer, maybe they are waiting to see what WB does?

My set still plays fine and always has so no reason to upgrade unless it is blu-ray. Even at $20.00 there is too much I don't have to spend it on something I already have with no real upgrade.

i see from 'the classic horror film board' forums that universal is also re-releasing the

entire universal monster legacy collections in one huge set. pre-order is up on

amazon, and they look to be single-sided discs also.

i believe i will end up buying both these sets...... my current discs do work, but i

would like a backup.

and the new artwork on the legacy set looks cool!

I did upgrade some to blu ray courtesy of the movies being available overseas in HD. And I heard that Curse of the Werewolf is coming overseas. If Nightmare from that set gets a release I could just part with the whole Universal release :)

Night Creatures, aka, Captain Clegg, is available in Region 2 Blu-ray as of a few weeks ago. I have not read a review of the transfer.

That universal set is sweet, but it's going to have to hit a real cheap price for me to buy some of those titles for the 5th time. I think I have every set they released.

If it was Blu, I'd pre-order it full pop.

I agree. If this was a Blu-ray release of these Hammer Film titles, I would order instantly.
I still have the old DVD. The DVD-18s were a real problem. Universal finally sent me a corrected disc years ago.

the-brides-of-dracula-poster.jpg

"Transylvania, land of dark forests, dread mountains and black, unfathomed lakes. Still the home of magic and devilry as the Nineteenth Century draws to its close. Count Dracula, monarch of all vampires, is dead, but his disciples live on, to spread the cult and corrupt the world."--The opening prologue narrative from THE BRIDES OF DRACULA (1960) screenplay by Jimmy Sangster, Peter Bryan and Edward Percy based on a story idea by Anthony Hinds (uncredited), directed by Terrence Fisher.

I held out forever on this but when (finally) available at a discount price I bought the initial doublesiders and fortunately not having any trouble with them.

Obviously I wish I'd had waited but if this better edition singlesided release is available at a discount I will likely get it again. These are a fine collection of Hammer horror movies presented in beautiful video transfers.

Since I never picked up the original set, this one looks might tasty, even if it's not Blue. I'll probably grab it as soon as I have some cash. . . .

Brides of Dracula is available on BD -- and while it's a little too tightly framed (as is the DVD), it is gorgeous.

A (very) minor point here. While the heading of this discussion thread states "7" it actually an 8 film collection (as supported by the provided specifics). For a (fleeting) moment I thought we might have been shortchanged on this.
