Has anyone heard anything a Blu-Ray release of this historic film?

Now would seem like a good time, being the 80th anniversary of the film.

A 4K restoration of the film was completed last November, so I was hoping a Blu-Ray release would soon follow.

But the year is almost half over and still no sign of it.

I'd love a Blu-ray of this. One of my very favorites.

Just the other day, I was experimenting with the Vudu/Ultraviolet disc-to-digital program, that allows you to insert a DVD you own into your computer, and for a small fee (I think it was $1 a title) get a digital copy in SD, or for a slightly larger fee (maybe $2? $3?) get a copy in HD. I was going through the titles I had on DVD where no Blu-ray was available, to see which titles had HD transfers I could get. Nabbed some for Warner-distributed titles like The Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby and A Night At The Opera, and for Columbia's Lady From Shanghai (though I now see there's a BD available for that), but they only had It Happened One Night in SD. I didn't see it offered in HD on Netflix or Amazon either.

So if it's out there, it hasn't made the streaming/downloading service rounds yet either as best I can see.

It's been on Sony's Video Unlimited service for months now, but it needs a Blu-Ray release.

In HD? Good to know (now if I only knew what that service was...)

Glad the work to create a 4K master was done, and completely agree that it should be on Blu-ray. I'd preorder it the second it was made available.

It's one of the native 4K titles Sony offers on their download service. I just got a 4K TV and plan to get a media player next month and this will be one of the first movies I'll check out. I would expect them to release it on Blu-ray this year. I've been waiting for it for a long time, but if I can get it first in 4K then so be it.

I can see maybe Twilight Time taking a shot here; otherwise I think a widespread Blu release would be on the cards.

I am really surprised this film is not yet out on Blu-ray.

After all, it's a Best Picture winner and certainly one of
the prize classics in Sony's library.

Widely considered to be the first screwball comedy, the birth of a genre right there! Clark Gable at his best! The warmth, wit and humanity of a Frank Capra picture! A little bit of inspiration for Bugs Bunny too!

To me, this movie is about as close to perfection as it gets.

My understanding is that this movie is part of a Frank Capra catalog restoration project currently underway at Sony by Grover Crisp...other titles include "Lost Horizon"(the original), "You Can't Take It With You", "You'll Never Get Rich" and "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington"...my guess is that these will eventually be released on BD either individually via outside distributors such as Twilight Time Entertainment or Criterion, or will be released as a deluxe box set by Sony itself...WHEN is the question and your guess is as good as mine!!!

It would be great to see "You'll Never Get Rich" (and "You Were Never Lovelier") make it to HD (even if it isn't a Capra movie).

It's news these days whenever Sony does a bad disc of anything. Even minor titles get at least basic TLC necessary to look good. But when they go all out, they really go all out. And when they don't want to release stuff, they let others do the heavy lifting for them. All studios should follow their example.

I would love this and Mr. Smith also. Too bad we won't get the latter for this year's July 4th celebrations (and its 75th Anniversary.)
I SO agree with you on Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Boy do we need it now, and would I ever be happy to replace my 15-year-old DVD!
