The ice maker is not getting cold enough in our frig, it's making slush. The temps are set fine for the frig.

Of course it's out of warranty but I called samsung and they said I could buy an extended warranty which would also be good for the existing problem, which sounded good to me until they said it was $423 for one year. Ouch.

I guess I can call around and try to get some ball park estimates before I commit to that warranty. If any one has any suggestions, I'd welcome them.

have you tried to google the problem, there are some videos on youtube on it, at least my 5 minute google search turned out some hits..

It's how I fixed my father's Samsung LCD after Samsung denied, denied, denied the problem. Eventually a class-action suit was brought up against Samsung, but this is after I took the TV and fixed it myself.

Jay (not really a buyer of anything Samsung...)

I would think any repair would be less than $400 for an ice maker. I am not a believer in buying extended warranties, though. They are a huge money maker for the companies that sell them. With the money you save by not buy extended warranties on anything, you can easily pay for repairs or replacements and still be way ahead.

For me, I only buy insurance on things that would present a financial hardship should they be required - health, home, car. Everything else is self-insured.

Pay with a credit card? Check your benefits. Amex, for example, doubles the warranty for repairs - if you have a 12 month manufacturer's warranty, Amex will extend it to 24. I used this several times. Usually you send them a copy of the repair invoice and they credit your account.

Oh, yeah, and google. Both our dishwasher and microwave had issues recently. A few minutes of googling told me exactly what was wrong with both and I was able to order the parts and fix them on my own.
