MGM Announced they will be 'rebooting' Stargate, with Roland Emmerich, the director of the first stargate film attached.

The Good: I love Stargate.
The Bad: I love the series far more than the film, and Emmerich has said he views the entire series non-cannon and it will all be thrown out.

Interesting: this is a 3-part trilogy, pre-booked.
Bad: I have serious doubts this could be 1/2 as good as any of the series best moments

I'm the opposite, i love the film and didn't really get into the series, it was okay sometimes but nothing special for me, as far as i am concerned they should have shot a sequel to Stargate while Kurt Russell and James Spader were in their prime, i would rather see new characters than their roles played by other people, i wonder if they will use the fabulous main music theme, i hope so.

I'm of similar opinion to Matt: the movie's potential was realized by the TV series. A new movie trilogy ignoring the show doesn't excite me. It's 20 years late. Still, I'm open for it to be good per se.

I'm thinking I probably won't enjoy the reboot because I liked the series and to retcon the entire mythology with something else won't sit well with me. I'll be too busy thinking about how the new compares with the old to give it a fair shake.

I liked the movie, but really got into the series, so I wasn't too impressed years ago when I read a little about how the trilogy would have progressed.

Now; I dunno. I'd be willing to give it a shot, and try to separate the two, ala Highlander, but given Emmerich's recent offerings, I'm hoping he's learned a few, new tricks.

Loved the film. Never watched any of the series. I'd prefer to see a direct sequel, rather than yet another reboot of the same story again.

Me too but Kurt and James are a bit too old for a direct sequel unless they set it twenty years later.

For me I would rather have a total reboot with a very different setup to get as far away from the original movie and series as possible. Easier to accept them as completely separate takes on the same general premise.

I just wish that the reboot trend wasn't so lucrative for Hollywood. This kind of crap is getting tiresome. Another Stargate with Emmerich attached? No thank you.

My favorite David Arnold score! I doubt they will use it because it actually has a thematic structure and more then one character theme. They'll probably hire Zimmer or one of his cronies, like must summer movies these days, and ask them to bang out lifeless, dry and boring noise that some call music. As far as the reboot, I'm in wait and see mode. I love the movie and the shows, all the shows. SGU was starting to get really good when it as canceled, IMO, and I liked the more serious tone.

THX Laserdisc Dolby Stereo Digital AC-3.

I don't want to show the DVD and the bluray I have as the bluray is shockingly poor on theatrical with a missing few seconds of audio from scene past to present day.

I bought the 15th anniversary edition from the USA due to it's 7.1 sound mix, i watch the extended these days since i like the scene where Kurt Russell tells the General that Spader is full of shit, it's watered down in the theatrical mix and you can clearly see from his lips he is using another word, the other good thing about the 15th anniversary release is that unlike the first blu ray release the brightness levels are better, i think Stargate could look better, it has a few minor issues.

He turns away from camera so it could be un-cut dialouge. UK release was PG. USA PG-13.

It still has suffers from colour issues and due to the rapid fast sound cut from past to present day, I can't listen it without cringing. The UK one doesn't appear to have re-mix 7.1? Last I tried it and gave up. I'm not a fan of the directors cut as I'm slowly getting bored of director cuts now. I just want want I saw and heard in the cinema on its release.Fox,better not screw THE ABYSS with colour and better release the theatrical or duel versions so it can satisfy the extended fan as well as the theatrical fans.

STARGATE (1994) bluray dtsHDMA 7.1 / Lucafilm Ltd THX Sound System / JBL 49 speakers with expansion below surround and overhead.

Well it seems the 7.1 now working as I last time I played the film was on my other AVR and even though the Sony BDP-S550 was set up for 8 channel on the RCA, but that was 2 so years ago.

Between the past and present day the sound has an abrupt fade cut that sounds like some at tv station did it.

As it moves on with chapter 3 the testing of the STARGATE it rumbles in THX sound system. :P

Do you have the corrected Dolby Surround version? The initial pressings had a screwed up 2-channel surround soundtrack and I remember having to swap mine out for the corrected pressing a few months later.

Of course, if all you played was the AC-3 track, then you'd never notice.

BTW, not sure about this news. I loved the movie. Loved the series, even though it tossed a few notions out from the movie. I'd heard years ago about Emmerich's displeasure with MGM over the series and how he originally wanted to do a trilogy.

But now, all these years later, I've not been impressed with his work since, and not sure he won't turn this into another CGI-filled disaster-fest movie. The original Stargate was really low-key, but still fun.

A month or so after watching Man Of Steel and i can't really remember anything about the music score.

I'm finding that a lot of these newer big budget films seem to lack really memorable music, i look on IMDB and Man Of Steel somehow manages to garner over 385,000 votes and get a 7.3 rating while the original Superman from 1978 can only muster a little over 100,000 votes and a 7.4 rating, the world has changed and not for the better, it'll be a sad day when John Williams has to retire due to his age, his score for the original Superman wipes the floor with anything you hear in Man Of Steel.

Meh. I enjoyed the original film, but didn't love it, I disliked the series. I know MGM as a studio are in financial trouble and making something like this has the potential for them to make some quick money, but it will be fleeting in the long run. Meanwhile MGM let film history die. I won't be seeing this.

Come on around and watch it.
