Anyone else check out this summer series that started last night? It was OK, but it mostly seems like it's just a reboot of ER. Rather grotesque injuries are attended to during the overnight shift in the E.R. of a local hospital, while romantic drama and administrative conflict are manufactured among the staff.

Thats probably why it's a summer series. I watched it and did not think it was to bad. Cast I'd good. A lot of cliched situations, but good escapist summer fare.

This show is loaded with cliche.

The administrator who wants to cancel anything that costs money who also butts heads with the brilliant surgeon.

This show may have just reached the "jump the shark" moment for me, with TC forcibly taking the woman's blood, against her explicit wishes, to save the dying sister.

TC's constant disregard for hospital policy, authority, and other people's rights, with no consequences, is becoming pretty ridiculous.

Renewed for a 2nd season, as the ratings have been pretty good for a summer series.

Still think many situations on this show are pretty ridiculous, but as summer escapist fare it's preferable to any of the reality fodder out there.

It's fun, summertime fluff. The networks seem to constantly be trying out medical dramas and comedies (Sirens), but doubtful any of them will have the long time run of something like ER.

Catching old re-runs of "Grey's Anatomy" on Lifetime. They run three a day, cycle back to the beginning and start again. Now showing late 2010 episodes. If I've got enough time to waste, probably see the final 2013 episodes by the end of the month, then they repeat the cycle again.

They're just as bad as "The Night Shift", "Miami Medical" and other short-lived shows I've long forgotten, but somehow the show keeps going. What seems to be working out better are things like "Under the Dome" and "Falling Skies". Summer series that truly have the backbone to keep going into multiple years.

Summer series that tend to survive:

USA Series (retired: stuff like 'Burn Notice', still going: Covert Affairs, Suits, etc.)
TNT Series (Rizzoli & Isles currently, but several before then)
Showtime & HBO Series (Ray Donovan I think restarts soon, HBO normally rolls out summer series)
SyFy when it works.. (past: BSG, Sanctuary, Eureka, of the past.. now Defiance.. though Dominion is flat out TERRIBLE)

But the major networks don't seem to get it working.. I'm trying to think of the last major network show.. Rookie Blue is hard to count because it's a CBC show that also gets US air..

Totally spaced out "Suits, Rizzoli & Isles and Covert Affairs". Watched the most recent episodes, DVR is set for the rest of them.

Never really noticed until you mentioned it Matt, but the major networks are nowhere to be found in the list of summer season success stories. (Big Brother, Masterchef and crap like that don't really count, they're just cheap to produce shows that fill airtime). The only positive thing I can say about the major networks is summer season gives me a chance to catch up on Fall/Winter repeats of the good shows I missed while recording the garbage that failed.
