Australian members - can anybody recommend this BD player? (1 Viewer)

If this is all-region and is reasonable quality I'd consider this. Do any of my fellow Aussie members own one?

I know this brand name and they did have good DVD players that got real cheap in price. I used their DVD blanks from the early days but then it is a trade name and could come from many different factories with the Laser stamped on it. In other words they might only be a trading company accessing from many factories. The 3-year guatentee seems pretty good as is the price. For an all-region player I use the Kogan brand which also offers a 3-D model. I have not looked up the price lately but they got real cheap after initial release. They only offer delivery for a price and sometimes Free on a deal. They respond to information requests and are in Melbourne.

I've read some reviews for this Laser player and apparently the region-unlocking instructions for Blu-ray are included in the booklet. This is on my watch-list.

I found this model for two of my friends seeking a budget region-free model and they're both totally happy with it. No problems reported at all .. unlike my own experience with Kogan.

For Quality and Reliability stick to the Top Name Brands.

Questionable 'No name' products (including Kogan) are taboo in this household.

If somebody can recommend a region-free player that is name brand and doesn't break the bank then please do so - otherwise I think I'll be going with the Laser.

I purchased 2 separate leading brand players (Panasonic & Sony) to cover each region and together they cost me no more than an Oppo multi region player.
The quality and reliability of the Panasonic and Sony players has proven everything I could ever wish for.
It maybe just a crazy notion, but I much prefer a separate player for each region.
(Sorry, but buying a cheap no name multi region player is something I personally could never contemplate - though I'm probably isolated on this one)

I'm just tired of having to check if a disc is B or region-free before I buy it. There's a whole other world of Blu-ray goodness I'm not able to enjoy because of region-locking; and I've decided this shall be the year I go region-free for Blu.

"It maybe just a crazy notion, but I much prefer a separate player for each region."Pretty much agree (I have two PS3s, which have universal power supply). Works for me and I don't have to change the region codes etc via some software.

I've heard of several on-going problems regarding region-free machines, although these may have been players that have been tampered with.

There are many reports of Oppo players being very good.
If I took the region-free course I think that's the way I would go.

B&H in New York has a few major brand, Region-free BLU-RAY players in their catalogue.(these players play DVDs and Blu-rays from all regions)
I'm sure the blu-ray performance would be good, but I'm not sure how they would perform, quality wise, on a Pal DVD.

The 3 key presses it takes me to switch between regions doesn't really cause me any problems and I find it tidier to have one player instead of two ( although having said that I do have a Bluray recorder now but I'm looking to get that modified and sell the player too as I don't really need 2 separate players).
I don't even use my PS3 for Blurays as the fan and general noise from it are off putting when viewing quiet moments. Nothing too loud but not the silence I get from my multi region Bluray player - which is also modified to block the prohibited user operations so subs can even be switched off with any foreign discs with forced subs .
Being able to skip all the warnings and other forced things is quite handy.
