Do you know if this will require the same regulatory approval that the proposed Comcast-Time Warner sale will have to go through?

I'm very curious to see if this (as well as the Comcast/Time Warner thing) is allowed to go through, and what the long term ramifications will be for us (the consumer).

It will probably affect me since ATT is my ISP and DirecTV is my satellite provider.
Yep, me too. With AT&T for 8 years (Uverse for last 4) as ISP. With Directv for 12 years now. Really can't complain about either. When I've had issues (rarely), both have reacted quickly and well. Directv has always thrown freebies my way (upgrades) if I have an issue. I'm a pretty high end user for them (HD on 5 TV's, NFL Sunday Ticket, premium package, etc) and they've always treated me as such. Hope that continues after the merger.

Been brewing for a while. It's a pretty big deal as the face of media continues to change before our eyes.

I had Dish for quite a few years and had nothing but headaches. I've had Directv now for 5 years and no issues at all to speak of. If this somehow means getting AT&T phone service out here in the country in the future, count me in!

I'm bubbing about the possibility of buying a DirecTV dish when I get my own house, I live in Toronto, and Canadian TV sucks nowadays. I want all the awesome niche American cable shows that are unavailable here.

Complete opposite for me. I've been with Dish for 6-7 years now, never, ever had a problem, unless caused by me. They often rank as #1 in worst customer service, but I've never experienced it.When I first started with them, fried three receivers. All my fault because I didn't have enough ventilation in the cabinet. Every one of them replaced, no charge, no questions asked. Also lost five remotes to my black lab puppy until she trained me well enough to learn to put them out of her reach. Also replaced free of charge every time.
AT&T ranks as one of my least favorite companies, so probably won't every be switching to Directv.

The big difference between Dish and Directv is for those who live north of the Mason Dixon.Dish shoots too low on the horizon for those who live north of I80. Storms caput the Dish signal earlier than it will for Directv.
