Thanks for the info. Does Kino plan to include English subtitles with these releases? Will these be new HD transfers provided by the rights holders or will they be previous transfers?

They've also copped to releases later this of the AIP versions of BLACK SUNDAY and BLACK SABBATH, but via the regular Kino-Bava line (this deal with MGM appears to be how those were acquired).

Keeping my fingers crossed for some genre titles (i.e. PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES for starters).

I'm hoping some of the early 30's films that Kino released on DVD get upgraded to Blu (especially Love Me Tonight).

I'm unsure about KL's releases - are they region free?

Holy cow! Kino is actually licensing some of the UA catalog titles now? I thought these would be coming from Sony or 20th or Criterion or almost anyone but Kino. This is great news!

This gives me hope again for:
BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ
DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES
THE DEFIANT ONES
DOGS OF WAR
EXODUS
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED TO ME ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM
I WANT TO LIVE!
JACK THE GIANT KILLER
JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG
JUGGERNAUT
KISS BEFORE DYING, A
THE KNACK
LENNY
THE MIRACLE WORKER
NIGHT OF THE SHOOTING STARS
NIGHT THEY RAIDED MINSKY'S
THE OFFENCE
ONE TWO THREE
ON THE BEACH
THE PARTY
RETURN OF A MAN CALLED HORSE
SEMI-TOUGH
SMILE
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF/GUNFIGHTER
THIEVES LIKE US
TOM JONES
TRUFFAUT (WILD CHILD, SMALL CHANGE, ETC.)
WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT?
WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT

I hope this deal continues as a symbiotic relationship!

Great initial titles!

It's great to see the UA titles being released by multiple companies. Hope this continues until all the great ones have been upgraded!

These were not acquired through the studio deal. These AIP HD masters were acquired the previous source.

love the idea of this as long as MGM/Fox are doing the heavy lifting and getting the ready for an HD presentation, lie when Sony sub's out a title it still has the look of the work that has gone into it

I was wondering where Kino was going to go classics-wise after they lost access to the old Rohauer catalogue. Lately it seemed they were going to be a big purveyor of good quality public domain films like their recent Selznick and Bette Davis blu-rays, but now it looks like we have yet another hand in the MGM/UA cookie jar.

What makes this deal interesting is that Kino is one of those companies that still has more interest in classic Hollywood deep catalog. While the MGM doesn't offer much pre-50s, it looks like they are willing to give the 50s titles some love. For example, Witness for Prosecution has been available in HD on Netflix for at least 2 years, seemingly ignored by the various blu-ray distributors. Maybe Kino can pay for new remastering of some future titles, though that's probably getting a bit too optimistic right now.

I'm very excited by this list of titles, especially Witness for the Prosecution, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, Marty, and Paris Blues.

Could The Hound of the Baskervilles or The Miracle Worker be far behind?

I consider Marty to be one of the select few Oscar winners that are indeed worthy of the award. It'll be great to watch it in HD and, presumably, widescreen. Too bad few people seem to cherish it nowadays.

Marty will be released in its original intended ratio of 1.85:1

This is fantastic news! Witness for the Prosecution, Marty, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes...all great movies. Here's hoping for some Edwards/Sellers flicks: The rest of the Pink Panther series and The Party.

Thx for sharing MisterLime!

Not a KL STUDIO CLASSIC release - Just a regular KINO CLASSICS one and part of the MARIO BAVA COLLECTION.
