Which do you prefer? Original Soundtrack Version: the one heard in the original broadcast versionORReplaced for Home Video/Rerun Syndication version?Pick one, and BTW do NOT mention any shows, becuz its annoying to me!

i have the blu-ray of the twilight zone.

on most of the menu items, it shows original audio or enhanced audio.

i am just listening with my tv speakers, so that may be the reason why i cant seem to tell any difference.

what is actually different between the original and the restored/enhanced ?

do i need to have surround sound or a speaker system before i can tell ?

This choice reminds me of an old commercial for a wine cooler in the 80s where they asked if people would rather have their wine cooler or a tax audit!

No debate. Original is better.

Are we talking about replacements?Or remastered in multi-channel?(and possibly re-recorded a la Star Trek TOS)?

The sound options on The Twilight Zone blu-rays are both mono (so it's not a 5.1 surround mix or anything like that). I'm no audiophile but I can't tell any real difference between the two either.

Originals are best. There's usually a reason producers or directors choose to use certain songs in a certain scene, and replacing said song with generic stock music can diminish the intended effect.

Yeah, it totally sucks that replacing said copyrighted songs with soundalike versions ruins the intended effect, and as a result, the scene's not the same anymore thanks to that.

Yeah, even if someone didn't mind replaced music, who would actually prefer it?

It's like these CDs that were being sold of "Newly Mastered" greatest
hits of groups like Kool and The Gang.

They went back into the studio and re-recorded their biggest songs.

...but when you listened to them, you couldn't help but think, "yeah
maybe it sounds more modern but it's not the version that I grew up
with and like the most."

I know we are talking soundtracks here, but I think the same thing

I'd say it's more like the 2002 versions of the Ozzy Osbourne albums Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman.

Because Sharon Osbourne was pissed off at Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake, the original Ozz bassist and drummer, for wanting a cut of the money for album sales, she decided that the proper thing to do was to have Ozzy's then-current bass player and drummer rerecord the bass and drum parts for the album, strip the original rhythm section off the songs, and replace it with the newly recorded versions and rerelease the albums as "newly remastered" without a single mention of the fact that the album had been half rerecorded.

And boy, did those versions of the albums suck. The bass and drums sounded off tempo and too modern compared to the original 1980 recordings, among other problems. This stunt also pissed the majority of the fans off, because the albums were being passed off as new remasterings of the original album as opposed to the half rerecorded monstrosities they were.

By the time the albums were remastered and released AGAIN in 2011, the original bass and drum tracks were quietly restored to the albums, and the problem has been solved.

I don't know how to tie this into TV on DVD, I just think it's a closer comparison to the music replacements seen in TV on DVD. In fact, it closely mirrors The Fugitive on DVD. There. Tie-in avcheived. I'm going to take a nap.

The point is, people don't want the things they originally fell in
love with to be F-d with.

Never knew that about the Ozzy albums. Very sad.

However, there are tons of remastered CDs by popular groups
that are basically the same thing you described.

...and they don't clearly state that changes have been made outside
of putting a REMASTERED sticker on the cover.

Yeah, for all we complain about music substitutions for TV shows, we generally get a warning.

But, if you buy, say, one of those tantalizingly cheap oldies compilation sets you see in Wal-Mart for 5 bucks, it will proudly proclaim something like STEREO RECORDINGS BY THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS!, but never tell you that those stereo recordings were made two weeks ago by the original artist who is now 40 years older and doesn't sound quite the same, and they're backed up by a guy with a synthesizer.

And you're completely correct... people don't like having their fravorite stuff screwed with and changed. Two simple words should have taught that lesson to everyone in entertainment: STAR WARS

I'm waiting for the hiphop version of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY in which all of Kubrick's carefully calibrated classical cues are replaced by an entire new soundtrack by The RZA, with the stipulation being that The RZA has to verify that he's never seen the film nor does he ever intend to. Hey, this'll turn the kids on to a classic, won't it?

I'm not bothered by replacement music in some cases. Netflix has the 5.1 versions of Star Trek: TOS and I find them interesting. On the other hand, some of the incidental background music was changed on a handful of S4 episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies and it drives me bonkers.

Since the subject of music came up, in most cases I'd agree. The exception would be the remakes Roy Acuff did for Capitol of his earlier Columbia music. Maybe because recording technology was better in the early 50's than it had been 15 years earlier.....I don't know. The Capitol re-records just sound "tighter" and more professional than when Roy was a little younger. I also prefer George Jones' Musicor version of "The Race is On" to the original.

those "recorded by the original artists" never sound as good

cuz the artist does not have the same singing talent as he did when he was younger

i thought we were talking about the original recording, re-mastered

i still dont know what studios mean by "re-mastered"

i always just thought it was a sales gimick ?

but perhaps there was some noise/hisses that were removed, to make it sound better ?
