The receiver for my AVD-LS10 home cinema system just died and I was wondering if it was possible to replace it with a cheaper option or whether it had to be that model. As all the speakers are undamaged. And if so what replacements would be suitable.

That system used standard speaker connections at 8 ohms, so you can replace it with any standard receiver.
