The 1965 John Sturges film The Satan Bug really needs a Blu Ray Release, especially since the MOD Disc is below average in terms of video and audio quality. The Satan Bug does feature a great score by Jerry Goldsmith. Does anyway know if there is much of a chance of Twilight Time releasing The Satan Bug ,which is owned by MGM , on Blu Ray?

Thanks!

Depends on if MGM ever bothered to remaster this. The MOD master certainly seemed laserdisc-era.

If so, Twilight Time would likely consider it. Of course it could also end up being released by Shout/Timeless Media. It doesn't seem encouraging however.

You're right about the MGM MOD. I reviewed it back in the day, and it was obviously taken from an out-of-date video master. If that's all MGM has, a Blu-ray would be unwatchable.

But if the MOD was sourced from an LD master, that doesn't tell us much about the actual elements, nor does it tell us what digital scanning, cleanup and colour grading could do.

I saw it on TCM a few years ago and it looked decent on that channel.
Yeah, I've seen it on TCM within the past year and thought it look fine. Didn't notice any issues. I think it's still on my DVR.

I have the LD of The Satan Bug. I don't remember how it looked so I should fire up my LD player,
It looks about the same as the MOD disk. I think it is from the same transfer. When I got the MOD I pulled out my laser copy and compared. Se dirt in the same places. I would get a Blu of this in a heartbeat.

I would gulp and buy a Twilight Time release of this, in spite of my overall dislike of their marketing nonsense, simply because it would probably be the only way to get a copy of a fine movie. Kind of loses steam towards the end, but everything else in the film works wonderfully well. Have loved it since I was a kid. Would prefer, obviously, a Shout Factory release, but you can't always get what you want in this world. So yeah, Shout Factory, if you're listening, I'd buy a copy.

I really like "The Satan Bug". It used to be shown a lot on BBC TV in the seventies usually in their "Saturday Night At The Movies" slot. These days all you get on British TV in the evening is reality TV. So I dont watch anyTV.I have the Italian DVD, which isnt much better than VHS and unfortunately the Italian subtitles are forced.I'd really like to see a decent HD version of this.

Hard to believe with all the talent involved, it turned out so bad.
I understand you don't like the movie, but there several of us here who think it turned out quite well.
