3D The Flesh and Blood Show (1972) Blu-ray - 3D sequence on release (1 Viewer)

I don't know if anyone on this forum would care too much about this film/release, but the Redemption/Kino Blu-ray of The Flesh and Blood Show (1972) that came out last month has the 10-minute finale 3D sequence on the disc as a separate bonus selection in both stereoscopic for 3D televisions and anaglyph, according to online reviews.

Is it worth enduring the rest of this dreary movie though. As I recall, probably not.

I wouldn't know - never seen it. Just figured it was worth noting here since this is the first 70s 3D film to get a proper 3D Blu-ray release, even if it's just a short sequence.

Even by Pete Walker's none too high standards, it's something of a dud. He also made The Four Dimensions of Greta which has some 3D sequences.

So, a friend of mine who is a fan of Tristan Rogers, convinced me to show this to him today. Two years of owning and I still hadn't watched the movie. My few random thoughts on it:

In terms of Flesh, yes, there is. Practically every young actress in the film takes her top off at some point or another in the movie. In terms of Blood, not so much. Creature From the Black Lagoon has a higher body count than this movie. And all the murders are off screen, too!

To watch in 3D, you have to endure the 2D portion up to the beginning of the 3D segment, go to the menu, watch the 3D segment, go back to the menu, and finish the film in 2D. That--is annoying.

Man, the 3D segments are dark. I know there's gimmick shots but you can barely see them since it's so dark.

Overall, I can attest to seeing worse 3D movies, but I don't think I'll be revisiting this one anytime soon if ever.

Well, I'd order it if the 3D sequence were actually in the film and not separate. That's like how they did "Freddy's Dead" on laserdisc, thankfully the DVD in the box set did it the right way.

Very dark black & white 3D sequence, strikingly contrasted to the 2D color portion. The 3D left image displays a greater degree of right image 'burned-in' crosstalk, an artifact probably resulting from either the red or the blue outline parameters (not sure which?) of the anaglyph source print.

Alas, they could've resolved this so simply by encoding the entire movie in MVC with the autodetect flag for 2D players, and including the anaglyph version of the 3D sequence as a bonus feature. The first half of this explanation is how the Spy Kids 3D/The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl 3D double feature was handled for BD 3D. So simple. It would be nice if Warner would do this for Freddy's Dead, as I imagine New Line still has the original L/R elements for the 3D sequence, and they could make a major deal out of it for the gorehounds out there: 3D SEQUENCE IN COLOUR FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!! We all know they didn't shoot the 3D sequence in B&W.

That sequence is sort of in color, but it's messed up by the red-and-blue glasses. That's how it was theatrically though.

Same situation with the 2 Robert Rodriguez kiddie flicks I mentioned, but RR used really exaggerated colour schemes so at least some of the colour would come through. In BD 3D, they are like the Wachowskis' Speed Racer.
