I like (but don't love) this movie and pre-ordered it to support Warner doing more like this. But I just can't help but feel they have more worthy subjects like High Society, Seven Brides, The Band Wagon, Bells Are Ringing, Brigadoon, etc. Still I am hoping for more.

From the perspective of indicating Warner's intentions, this is great news.

They must be fully aware that they have a lot of more important (and more marketable) titles than this. The fact that they are willing to put out Hit The Deck strongly suggests that they have plans for all of these other films and that it is just a matter of time and opportunity.

I think we certainly know now, from titles like Jumbo, that high-quality masterings have either already been done or are being done for their better titles. I suspect that they are thinking about how to balance the archive release against regular release.

Its an important CinemaScope title from the period - and would transpire to be Jane Powell's last big film at MGM. It also came quite close to the 'end of the line' for Tony Martin and Vic Damone, etc. The 'system' was crumbling away and the great MGM stars were either being fired or leaving the studio.

I screened the older DVD of "Hit the Deck" last night, this time upscaled, and it looked quite wonderful. If Warner Archive has the same print, the Blu will be very enjoyable.

BELLS ARE RINGING might happen from WAC, but the others are more than likely still with WHE.

Watching the film last night, I was struck by Jane Powell's greeting to co-star Russ Tamblyn (who plays her brother). She exclaims "Hello, brother Daniel", and I'm wondering if it was an intended wink to the previous "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", as Milly first
greets the Pontipee brothers in a similar way.

The colour on the current DVD is really vibrant - I remember the VHS being quite dull and washed-out for the most part. Some great numbers and several topline stars - I'm quite enthusiastic about this one... maybe because we haven't really seen any musicals on Blu from Warners for a while...

This promotional shot was used to advertise the forthcoming "Hit the Deck". Tony Martin (in costume for his role in "Deep in My Heart") is on the set of 1954's "Athena" with his future "Deck" stars Jane Powell, Debbie Reynolds and Vic Damone.

Pre-ordered through HTF/Amazon. This title really came out of the blue. No semi-pun intended. Was this on anyone's radar screen? I agree with the other comments here that the last dvd release looked quite nice and that bodes well for a good-looking blu. With the blu releases of this and Billy Rose's Jumbo recently I am quite hopeful that we will see High Society, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Band Wagon and so many other higher profile releases down the road.

...interesting in that Jane Powell and Vic Damone also had a musical cameo in "Deep in My Heart"...I wonder how long it took to stage and film in between the several musical sections involving a multitude of MGM's great talent...
