Hello all,
I have an Episode 8" Sub that does not work anymore... I removed the sub from the housing and the stink, something definitely fried. Not sure if the sub is bad or the amp.

The stamp on the sub reads 100W and 4ohms
I ohm out the sub, the lowest setting on my DMM is 200 so when i check the terminals on the sub it starts to read .4 then after about 10 seconds it will go to .3 then sit at .2

I power up the amp and test the voltage and it reads 68.5V to the sub.

I do not have another amp or sub to test either.... what are your thoughts?
Thanks all for the help!

Sound like the voice coil fried.Basically... .2 is a short. If it shorted, it probably took the amp with it.No loss, get a newer/bigger/ better one.

Nope.Well, there is. But the equipment costs more than buying that Kicker.Seriously. Why expend energy resurrecting an 8"?

How much can I buy a new unit for? As this one was free and I didnt want to spend more then $50-60 to repair.
And what equipment would it be? I sold my oscilloscope a couple of month ago.

So.... is there a way to test the amp without another sub??
You would need a resistive 'dummy" load that simulates the intended driver.

If the amplifier fuse didn't pop, I'd say its at least 50/50 it is still okay.

What was going on when the VC fried?
