Just after that clip of Early, the above episode of Baseball (about 17:00) starts to explore the history of the game--including the Doubleday myth, cricket, rounders, and the Knickerbockers.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself.Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I think even before the Burns doc, I might point an eager learner to the works of Lawrence Ritter. If not before, then for sure, right after.

I don't know if I'll ever understand baseball....

The Giants' strategy puzzles me.  How does letting the other team get 9 runs ahead help them win?  Mike, can you explain this to me?

EDIT  Now it's 10 runs ahead.

Baseball IS very complicated.

I think I'd need you to play a couple of years of Little League before I could thoroughly explain such strategies.

All right, who you got for tonight's Game 7?

I guess I'm still pulling for the Giants, would love to see Hudson come up big, but he's ancient now at 39 years of age, and I don't know how much gas he has in the tank left.  Can they actually squeeze 2-3 innings from Bumgarner as well?  Will the Giants' bats wake up tonight?

I'm an AL guy...so I've been rooting for the Royals.

But, then again, I was sure the O's were going to make it to the WS this year!

Nice to get a Game 7 out of the series.  Tonight should be fun.

I figure Bumgarner comes in at the first hint of trouble for Hudson.  HAS to.  Especially if he gets into trouble early.

Why LL?  Because the parents argue every call with the umpires?

Exactly.  Because they can always use a good lawyer in those arguments.

Now let me get back to Game 7 of the World Series!  Currently 2-2 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Dennis,

You do know that the team with the fewest runs wins the game, right?

So how did two fielders bobble the ball and let that guy stretch a single into a triple?  For a moment I thought we were going into extra innings.

Anyway the cats were good luck for the Giants tonight.  My soundtrack tonight was the Melos Quartet playing the Razumowsky Quartets.

Wow, 5 innings of relief from Bumgarner brings home SF's 3rd WS in 5 years.  Never thought he's be going for that long in game 7.

Bumgarner doesn't seem to be a very emotional guy.  Unlike Pence who looks like he's playing the part of the crazy guy in a pirate movie.
