Hello-Just purchased a pair of Paradigm Signature Series s2's as well as the c1 Center Channel. Also bought a SVS PB12 Plus subwoofer. Power is from a Marantz sr7008. I also have a set of KEF 3005 satellites for the surround. The Paradigms and sub wont be here for another week or so but I'm wondering what this forum thinks they will sound like in a 15x30' room with 10' ceilings? They sounded great at the store...but of course they did. What should I expect at home? Thank you ahead of time!

You'll probably find that most here like to match manufacturers fronts, centers and rears, personally I think what you've got will sound terrific. The room IS a big space for bookshelf speakers tho, you'll have to let us know how that works out for you. I'm a paradigm fan, but the Sig's are above my pay grade, I chose to go with beefier studio line (and the old Monitor Line back when I first got in the hobby), to get more bang for the buck as it were and to help fill in my own big spaces. KEF make terrific stuff too, I just reviewed their Orb speaker set not too long ago.

I've heard the first generation S2s and thought they were very good speakers. And I'm not a huge Paradigm fan, even being a former owner of a number of them. The 7008 may not have enough power for those S2s in that large of a room, so see how they do. Add an amp if they sound strained.

If I wanted to add a second amp how much more power should I go for? Is this easy to do with an AVR?

Sounds like a good way to destroy some equipment now that I think about it
This receiver has preamp outputs for use with an external amplifier as schan mentioned. There's no issue doing this.

So I could buy an amplifier (from ie: Marantz) and this would plug in to AND bypass the AVR amp to power the front left and right bookshelves? Pardon my ignorance...this is the first time I've decided to drop some real money on a home theater.

Yes. AVR that have preouts allow you to connect an additional amp.

AVR are not "whatever by X" in real terms. The 7008 is not a lightweight, at all. But it only has "so much total power" to devote to audio. When you divide that by 7, you get less per channel. If you take the main two speakers away from the AVR, it can devote its power to center/surround.

The PS S2 is 88db efficient(or 91 room)...which is the same efficiency as the S6.

The amount of power you need for the room is up to you and your listening style.

Basically speaking though, if im only pushing 5.1 channels I should be fine with this receiver? If so, adding 2 or 4 more speakers down the road is when i may want to consider an amp?

It all comes down to how loud you listen.

My large room of the house...

Roughly 40x40(and that is not living room to dining room...just one room)
Onkyo NR807
DCM TF600/350, SurroundScape and a pair of KX.

Running 5.1 plus width(7 channel)...that AVR has no issue producing volume in the reference range.

That's why I mentioned you can consider an amp if they sound strained; as long as they sound clear for the level you are asking of them, there's no issue. That receiver has preouts though, so you are covered if power is an issue for how loud you desire to listen.

Welcome to the forum Sean. Paradigm is highly respected, I think youll be happy even with book shelf and your room size. That quality sub will help in that regard as well. Ive been very pleased with Paradigm's Studio line (best speakers Ive ever owned by a damn sight) but eventually theyll be replaced with seven S2s. Thats my dream system but for now Ill just have to envy your system...
