http://www.deadline.com/2014/03/screen-gems-takes-on-sony-playstation-vidgame-adaptation-the-last-of-us/This was probably the best gaming experience I've ever had in my life. The game play was cool, but that wasn't what made it special. It was the characters, story, and emotional experience of moving through this tale. In many respects, the game was more of an interactive movie experience. Countless times while playing I couldn't help but think what an excellent movie it could make. For those unfamiliar, the story is basically a post apocalyptic survival tale of two people, Joel and Ellie, who brave hordes of "infected" while moving across the ruined American landscape towards the slim possibility that something they have may lead to a cure. Though the infected are a deadly force of nature, the larger threat to their survival is other people. It's very much in the vein of 'The Walking Dead' meets 'The Road'. The emotional core of the story is the relationship between the two protagonists. It was a very creepy, entertaining, and moving story. My hope is that the story of the game is adapted to film and that they don't try to come up with some other generic story just "set in the same world" as the game. Then I'd loose most of my interest. I've read some comments by dumbass gamers (no offense if you are dumbass gamer) saying things like "what's the point of doing the story from the game? It was already so cinematic and we already know it. Etc, etc..." What those dopes don't seem to realize it that probably 95+% of the potential film audience are people who don't play games. The point of making this story into a movie isn't to serve a game audience but to bring a wonderful story to a new audience. I certainly hope that is the route they take. I'd love to see this story adapted to film.

Yeah, this is something that could be naturally adopted to film. Shorten battle scenes (or cut some of them) and just move with the storyline, and you've got a great - and I mean great - science fiction story well told. I have hopes for this one, but then again, I worry they will mess it up

Yes, I hope it is treated with respect and developed as a "movie" and not a "game movie", if you know what I mean.No Paul W.S. Anderson type crappy directed low budget junk. Give it a good budget and get talented film makers involved and this could be something special. Naughty Dog (the game developer) is staying involved, so I hope that means there is a good chance of it retaining the essence of the story experience.Sam Rami is also involved at some capacity. I'm not sure if he's looking to direct or if it is just his production company that is involved. While I could see him handling the 'infected" stuff well enough, I'm not sure his sensibilities are best for the serious emotional core of the story. For those interested in getting an idea of the atmosphere of what this story could be as a movie, please view these trailers for the game.Story Trailerhttp://youtu.be/W01L70IGBgECinematic scenehttp://youtu.be/ShP5xn9Tz90Perfect example of the tone this could have as a theatrical film

One more.If you would prefer to remain 100% spoiler free, then you may want to skip this. But it is the opening of the game/story and the "spoiler" is really just setup for the main story. This opening kicked me in the gut, grabbed me tight, and really set the tone for the story I was about to experience. I would LOVE to see a well adapted version of this on the big screen. It's 15 minutes

And I'll say this: For me, the two most moving stories I experienced in 2013 were 'Gravity' and 'The Last of Us'.

Best video game I have ever played. It has the potential to be a great film if the right people get involved. Here's to hoping it does.

Hope this is still on track. Although it would work better as a mini series on HBO or the like.

Maisie Williams has said she's had talks about playing Ellie. I think a Jim Caviezel or Josh Brolin type would be good for Joel.

Yes, I've read about Maisie Williams being in talks to play Ellie. I think she'd be a good choice for the role. As would the two above suggestions for Joel.

After reading about some of Sony's ideas for movie projects in their leaked e-mails like a 21 Jumpstreet - Men in Black crossover, I hope they are serious about getting behind the making of this film.

This and the Uncharted series would make great movies.

The Last Of Us would be best done as a one off movie. Uncharted could be the next Indiana Jones series.
