http://www.deadline.com/2014/03/screen-gems-takes-on-sony-playstation-vidgame-adaptation-the-last-of-us/This was probably the best gaming experience I've ever had in my life. The game play was cool, but that wasn't what made it special. It was the characters, story, and emotional experience of moving through this tale. In many respects, the game was more of an interactive movie experience. Countless times while playing I couldn't help but think what an excellent movie it could make. For those unfamiliar, the story is basically a post apocalyptic survival tale of two people, Joel and Ellie, who brave hordes of "infected" while moving across the ruined American landscape towards the slim possibility that something they have may lead to a cure. Though the infected are a deadly force of nature, the larger threat to their survival is other people. It's very much in the vein of 'The Walking Dead' meets 'The Road'. The emotional core of the story is the relationship between the two protagonists. It was a very creepy, entertaining, and moving story. My hope is that the story of the game is adapted to film and that they don't try to come up with some other generic story just "set in the same world" as the game. Then I'd loose most of my interest. I've read some comments by dumbass gamers (no offense if you are dumbass gamer) saying things like "what's the point of doing the story from the game? It was already so cinematic and we already know it. Etc, etc..." What those dopes don't seem to realize it that probably 95+% of the potential film audience are people who don't play games. The point of making this story into a movie isn't to serve a game audience but to bring a wonderful story to a new audience. I certainly hope that is the route they take. I'd love to see this story adapted to film.
