Wow! This is great news. My guess is that it will be missing a few songs here and there (I still just can't see them securing every single song), but I'll buy it regardless even if that makes me one of the bad guys that messes it up for everyone else because I refuse to wait for a truly "perfect" set.

Gary "big time holy grail coming off my list" O.

Gary,I guess I'll be one of the bad guys as well. This show takes place in nearly the same time period in which I grew up. The cultural, music, and other references throughout the show are spot on relative to many of my own personal experiences. I loved it when it aired, and I'm sure I'll love it again.

If anyone has most, if not all of the episodes from the original ABC airings, I hope they can compare them to what will be on the DVDs.

Anyways, this is great news.

Something must be wrong. The number one and number two most requested and problematic tv shows coming to DVD. . . In the same year.it sounds too good to be real..J.K. Rowling saying she might have made a "shipping" error with the ending of Harry PotterPoliticians saying people don't need to work for insurance.maybe the world is coming to an end. And maybe some higher-ups decided to throw the tv fans a bone.Jthree

Ron,

Per request of TVSODVD.com I've edited your post as they don't want their entire article posted here.

The fact that the Price is not listed yet tells me it is going to be high. The cost of securing the songs will be felt in the price I believe.

Ron1973, and Robert, thanks for understanding about not copying the entire story here. Here's a working link to the story at our site.As far as pricing goes, especially where the music clearances come into play with that and whether any large numbers of songs might have to be missed (i.e., the "virtually every song" comment), here's something I just wrote to somebody on our Facebook wall about that very thing:
..comparing to China Beach, they did have to leave out a few songs...I think it was something like 15 songs total that they couldn't clear, from a list of over 300 on a 4-season show (and if "15" is wrong then it's too high; maybe it was 10 or 12, I forget by a year later! ). So that's like 95% or more of all the songs were included on the DVDs for China Beach, and it was priced at $199.95 for 21 discs. If SV/TL can do that well with the music clearing and the pricing for Wonder Years (which will probably cost at least a bit more than China Beach since it was 6 seasons total, although S1 was 6 eps and S2 was 17 eps, compared to 22-24 eps each for S3 through S6, so the equivalent of five seasons in that respect), then we ought tol be in great shape!

I'm pleased for those who want this. I had largely given up on network programming by the time this was released. I sure would like Time/Life or someone to do something about WKRP.

hi joe,

i never saw the show. from the wiki, it did not do real well in original ratings. but it had an unsuspected success in syndication.

i do hear a lot of people that seem to like that show.

since i am not personally familiar with the show, and can only do some investigation, i will say that I HIGHLY SUSPECT you and others will eventually be happy.

the studios may have lots of stuff to release every year.

and much of it is drivel.

they do not have tons of WONDER YEARS to put out. like lhotp, and many others, it is a classic, and will remain a part of the human situation while humans are around.

it was an absolutely no brainer that the studios would release it.

and if wkrp is anywhere in that same ballpark, it will get a release.

and more than likely a second release with some more music rights obtained.

Just to clarify things, Jimmy, can you tell me exactly what your prediction is here? Are you saying that you believe this upcoming Time/Life Wonder Years set will be released again somewhere down the line with even more music intact? Or are you claiming another WKRP release is upcoming and will have more music?

Gary "I'm just not sure how to interpret that last line of your post" O.

I wonder if Time Life is better situated to get music clearances at reasonable prices because of the amount of music they already license.

Seems like a logical assumption to me, Ray.

Gary "hopefully we see a 95% or better retention rate with the original music - that would be great" O.
