It's really amazing to me to think it was almost fifty years ago. I saw the first Ed Sullivan broadcast (I was six). Little did I know at the time what an impact this group would have on my life.

I'm all set to record the two-hour event on CBS one week from Sunday. I'm really looking forward to it. :) I wish I could get to some of these shows.

Scott, some very good performances last night from the artists making tributes to the FAB four. And it was great to see Paul and Ringo perform together.

Nelson,I agree. I've written extensively about it elsewhere (not on this Board). I really enjoyed it. :)

So how did they create this event?

Looks like it was performed during the Grammys show but that was 4 hours long.

Yes, the CBS special was recorded the day after the Grammys. I thought it was great, especially Paul and Ringo...and Hey Bulldog, which is the ringtone on my iPhone, was great.

I liked just about the entire program. I think the renderings of Hey Bulldog, Don't Let Me Down, Here Comes the Sun, and all of Paul's and Ringo's performances, were quite good.

Here is an interesting U.K. and U.S. album-by-album comparison. Reasons for why certain singles were included on the U.S. albums are also explained rather nicely.

Here is some information on the digitally-restored picture and soundtrack of the Beatles' film A Hard Day’s Night (Special 50th Anniversary Edition).

********************************Just one month after they exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show appearance, John, Paul, George, and Ringo began working on a project that would bring their revolutionary talent to the big screen.

A Hard Day’s Night, in which the bandmates play slapstick versions of themselves, captured the astonishing moment when they officially became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever.

Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester (Help!) and featuring a slew of iconic pop anthems, including the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Should Have Known Better,” and “If I Fell,” A Hard Day’s Night, which re-conceived the movie musical and exerted an incalculable influence on the music video, is one of the most deliriously entertaining movies of all time.

New 4K digital film restoration, approved by director Richard Lester.

A monaural soundtrack, in addition to newly created stereo and 5.1 surround mixes supervised by sound producer Giles Martin at Abbey Road studios.

Available in Dual-format Blu-ray/DVD and standard DVD formats.

"One of the great life-affirming landmarks of the movies.” Roger Ebert

"The greatest and most entertaining rock movie ever.” Lou Lumenick, New York Post

“No movie of the 1960s catches that era’s irreverent joy and exuberance as much as Richard Lester’s Beatlemania saga.” Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune

The search function failed to find the(original) "Beatles in Mono" thread from this forum several years ago. Maybe my memory is hazy, but I'm remembering that there were hundreds (!) of posts in that thread, many driven by the rumor(?) that the Mono CD Box Set was a true limited edition. In any event, all these years later, now we have a *new* "Beatles in Mono" Box Set, this time the (vinyl) LP's.http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-ms-beatles-mono-20140908-column.htmlAny takers? (Not me.)
