When Amazon started their Prime service, they were heads and shoulders above the other on line retailers. That has changed; the two day free delivery (how is it free, if you pay for Prime membership, annually). Has become my biggest complaint as of lately, mostly because of the UPS/UPS mail innovations/USPS aspect. Now it is two days, to deliver it to the local post office, then whenever they get around to it, it will show up.

UPS’s solution is that you can sign up for their account and pay extra to have home ground delivery by them, which would mean two day, buy as current Prime membership is $79.00, I am wondering if it might be time to cancel, and just pay for each shipment I order separately.

Just wait till you get one stuck in FedEx SmartPost purgatory.

I do not use prime(as I tend to buy "least cost") anyway. My last Amazon transaction(in December to avoid taxes. Have not used Amazon yet this year) was $289(about $40 in shipping) for 19 separate discs.

It took between 2 and 13 days for everything to show up. 5 came Fed Ex Purgatory...I mean SmartPost.

I used them for one year, and at the time it was a nice service, usually got things within one day.

As you mention, the service certainly isn't "free".

I was on some sort of try-out plan, didn't read the fine print, but when they started doing an automatic rebill to my bank account, said good-bye. Now I pay as I go.

Same here (knock wood -- since the renewal charge just hit my credit card).

It's not just for the "free" shipping. It's for the still-dependable and efficient shipping. So, for the time being, Amazon is still one of my masters.

Guess I am one of the lucky ones, Amazon Prime has always worked as advertised for me.

Same here. Last week was the first time a package did not arrive on the promised day, but that was due to the winter storms that hit this area hard. Amazon even sent me two emails informing me that my package would not arrive on time due to the weather issues.

I did have an issue with an alternate courier called Elite they were using at one time, where two different orders within a month never showed up. I contacted customer service, and specifically mentioned that both shipments were from this alternate courier. I was quickly contacted by Amazon, and they not only sent me a new shipment overnight so I had it the next day, but also promised to investigate. I have not received any more shipments using this courier, so I assume that Amazon ceased using them.

We also use their streaming service that is included with the Prime membership, so I find real value in the membership. Whenever I have contacted customer service, the response has always been positive.

For me, the service is declining, mainly due to the hand-offs from the primary shipper to the USPS for the final leg of the shipment, so Prime packages might show up in 2 days, but it's not guaranteed to show up in 2 days. A Christmas gift did not show up in 2 days in time for Christmas, so I had to make excuses for Kris Kringle...

Not Amazon related, but I'm still waiting for Christmas gifts shipped via UPS from Arizona to Washington state.

Coming up on four weeks. UPS Ground can be slow, but do they just have a delivery guy walking up north with the packages?

Maybe Shoedebaker went nationwide...

(if you don't get the joke...there was a "perfect mile" walking delivery service, mostly used by law firms, in downtown Indy...)

I've been using Prime for two years and will start my third next month. I'm going to continue since the streaming is good but I love the free shipping. Plus, I'm close to an Amazon shipping place so I get my titles the day after I order them so it's pretty much Next Day for free.

I LOVE Prime. I had one, count 'em, one, bad shipping experience. (Over 200 Prime purchases.) It involved Moron SmartPost. I called Amazon, and informed them, very clearly, that I would no longer accept SmartPost shipments. They have not used it since.

UPS and FedEx, to my door, every time. The only time that I have problems is when I buy from Marketplace stores. Some still use Smartpost. I inform them that I will never buy from them again.

I look froward to the day when USPS realizes that they are not a parcel service.

I just talked to an UPS delivery driver today. He stated that it was a difficult season for ups with the snowstorms. He also stated that some states closed state highways, and UPS did or would've gotten fined for every truck that was on the road. That might have something to do with it.

I've had many prime shipments fail to meet their obligation. Call and bitch and you will get a free month of prime of a $5 credit but that's about it.Sucks.

Two years on Prime and have never had a problem. In fact, I don't think I've ever had a problem with Amazon. To refer back to the OP, the problem is with the USPS, not Amazon. I've had issues with our local post office on things in the past (they were HORRIBLE for several months, there were days where no one on my block received their mail) and was told they are required by law to deliver any mail any mail they receive in time. Meaning they can't let it sit for a few days.

If Amazon tracking says it was handed off to the post office you should call the post office. But good luck there.

BTW - previously I never ordered anything from amazon where I had to pay shipping. I would just fill out the order with something in my wish list that wasn't crucial enough to order right away.

I've been extremely satisfied with my Prime membership. Never had a package take longer than 2 days to get to me (except one that got completely lost and they sent a replacement overnight). And I've gotten a few delivered the very next day. I'm sorry for the problems others have had, though.

I had a couple held up for a day or two right around the beginning of the year, but that was due to the snow across, well, most of the country. Until this happens on a regular basis, I'm sticking with Prime.

It's always worked great for me. I get everything in two days. I've gotten hundreds of discs, probably 8 monitors if not more, printers and even 42" TVs. All great, except the TV that UPS impaled with a fork lift, but Amazon took it right back.

I've used Prime for several years. I've had maybe 3 or 4 orders miscarry, but over all, their delivery record has been pretty good for me.
