Recently, I have played two discs (both Criterion) on my blu-ray player, and within an hour or so, both time, the picture has frozen and the player stopped playing. Neither of the discs looks scratched, in fact both are brand new. Could this be that the player just needs to be cleaned with a cleaning disc, or do I have a larger problem on my hands?

Usual suspects...Firmware updated?BD Live on?Do you have another BD player?
I should mention I have been able to restart in the same place and it runs fine.

BD Live? I need some education on this obviously. Also firmware updated? Not sure what you mean by this either.

Help!

After talking to Samsung, the firmware is up-to-date on the player. If I continue to have this problem, my next question is: are there any kind of diagnostics Samsung can walk me through; should I take it to be repaired if needed; or is it time to upgrade to a new player?

It is quite possible that Samsung may not support new firmware updates on your player in the near future, if they have not done so already.

I'm guessing you paid upwards of $200 for that player. The "C" series was almost 4 years ago. You can probably get a faster player with built-in wifi and larger selection of apps for about half of what you originally paid for your C5500.
