Maybe I should have called this the 4K iMac in 2014 Anticipation Thread. According to Macrumors, Dell is launching a $699 28" 4K display. In the Mac Pro thread I had mentioned that the iMac line was now powerful enough to do the things I need my computer to do, and I no longer needed a Mac Pro (though I want one, but alas finances speak more strongly than desire).
I didn't pull the trigger on a 2013 iMac because of a lack of Thunderbolt 2 (which is on the 2013 Mac Pro and the Macbook Pro) and the possibility of a 4K screen. While I knew TB2 was coming to the iMac in the next iteration, I was much less certain about 4K since at the time of that post, 4K monitors were costing as much or more than the entire iMac. Now with a $699 offering from Dell (and one assumes Dell is making money off of that price) it seems the pricing barrier for putting a 4K display on an iMac has been broken.
If so, 2014 will definitely be the year of the 4K iMac purchase for me!
