Per an update, Visio is pursuing 3D in other types of displays:

Their TVs are junk anyways- mine got messed up from a firmware update, then Vizio refused to own up to it!

I know that a number of Vizio HDTV's use LG display panels and they tend to be an issue with going out.  So people may want to stay away from Vizio 4K tv's as well because of issues with LG panels.   FYI

That is like buying a car based on those JD Power "best ownership experience in the first 90 days"...

 

True story...

 

A GF of mine, around a decade ago, bought an Audi A8. First 90 days she owned that car...

 

135 miles. Left her stranded at the mall. Starter died.

367 miles. Alternator died while driving to get to her parents house in "small town nowhere".

1200 miles. Auto-climate tanked.

 

However. She had that thing 8 years and put 300,000 miles on it(rep for a cosmetics company).

 

Obviously her "first 90 days" would be disastrous.

Got any proof of that or just making stuff up? Link clearly states, "The 2012 HDTV Satisfaction Report is based on responses of more than 1,000 customers who purchased an HDTV in the past 12 months."

No I'm not making that stuff up. In CE-land, it isn't the first 12mo you care about. It is the 12-18mo zone. How many gazillion threads are there that start..."My Vizio died just out of warranty?"

 

Once out of warranty...the CE maker(no matter who it is) no longer cares. Unless...like Samsung and Onkyo, they are forced by the govt to get involved with a recall. Recall is not the same as warranty.

About as many as Onkyo AVRs but it doesnt stop you from recommending them. ;) Selling more than anybody else has its drawbacks huh???

I have spoken with a number of home theater specialist that carry LG and I am always told that LG is horrible and is one of there top returns because of display panel issues and or power supplies.  I could not tell you how many people I have spoken with that purchased LG and Vizio tv's that will not purchase another one because the panels died or the power supply which IMHO backs up what the sales specialist are telling me.  Granted I still have a hard time knowing LG was known as Goldstar a very cheap brand in the 80's.  But I could get past that if LG didn't have so many problems with there panels and power supplies.  I have no issues with Sharp and keep wondering how good there tv's are and I have to admit that I like the 80" model they have out.  I don't know about the styling and appearance because I find LG to look cheap and horrible looking.  I have no seen a solitary LG TV that I looked at and thought to myself wow that looks good.  I usually see the picture and look at it for a few moments before I even look at the brand and when I finally look down at the brand it has always been yep that figures.  I also use to deliver appliances for a major retailer and when we picked up dead appliances for the customer and it was an LG it averaged 4-5 years old.  I am talking about $1700 - $2,500 LG refrigerators dead and the average was 4-5 years old and a few where only 3 years old.

I hope to be getting a 55" 4K TV this week and there is no way I will be spending my money on an LG!  Would not want it even for free!
