old comments from earlier in the day

I searched for a bad bad bad illegal release on youtube (they really shouldn't try to do that bad thing!! lol ) and found a mockup trailer, even that got me excited.

FAKE TEASER

When the trailer finally appears for real and legal and all... stop in and give your impressions of it. Hoping they show it in front of Hobbit too.

Some N-FO

Oh you serious Godzilla guys! lol Sorry... joking.

I'd definitely want more serious than '98. I liked that film mostly, but not all the silly stuff in the TV station. It was all way too mocking, and sure of itself when it was failing. at least a lot of it was a fun time when garbage wasn't dragging it down. Big G walking down the street or scaring old fishermen on docks were the film at it's best. Blah blah blah my news story! blah blah was the worst.

That screen shot I "borrowed" (hee) is from a bad cam version someone did. I haven't watched that, I want the real thing. Although I'll be stuck at work during it's release so I'll be watching it later today on my better PC at home.

Waiting until I get home in front of my PC... with a steaming cup of cocoa. Hoping this will be another trip out of town to my IMAX 90 minutes away! I didn't do that with Pacific Rim, horrible local theater with distractingly crap 3D ruined it. Will not happen again!

Excellent. Just tasty. I use real cocoa, honey for sweetener and one peppermint ball that melts and gives the whole thing a minty boost. Can't recommend enough.

Oh...and the teaser was freakin amazing. Trip out of town to IMAX 90s minutes away sealed. Can't wait to pre-order my ticket.

The 2001 music during the descent was chilling. I hope the whole movie has that.

I mostly liked that film too, except for Maria Patillo as Audrey. Her portrayal and voice are almost as bad as fingernails on a chalkboard for me. One of the worst casting choices I can think of. I thought Godzilla was fine, he even had a bit of demonic look to him.

Full disclosure requires me to state that I have never liked the original or sequels that followed. I have never gotten the appeal. I definitely do not like "the man in the rubber suit stomping on miniature buildings" special effect, especially when it is so poorly done. I've even watched the Criterion release on blu to be sure I was getting the full effect. Give me Beast from 20K anytime over Godzilla.

I watched the trailer and it can see potential there, though as to be expected, they showed very little of the beasty. I sure hope its modern CGI and not a man in a suit. When's the release date?

D'ya think there'll be some LFE action? Ya think?

I just watched the trailer from the first post on my desktop with a small Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker system and the desk was actually vibrating! Wow!

Johnny, I agree... she was real cute, but this ain't Mad About You or something like that! Or... the Simpsons... even Bart was in that thing! lol

Funny, I waited to get home to watch it and just when the G-shot happened it did a loading freeze. grrrr.. our internet at work is super fast but the PC kind of suck. It will really be great before Hobbit. I'll see that around Christmas. I won't tell mom, she'll really like that. Maybe it'll keep her awake this time (she fell asleep at the beginning of Hobbit Part 1)

Yeah, CGI makes everything better. ;)

I thought the man in a suit technique worked pretty well for the last few Toho films. Then again, I grew up watching the original movies on tv.

I never had a problem with man in suit. Most did an outstanding job. So it's a man in a suit... so it's computer generated effects... see what I did there? It's all good. Hell, check out one of the recent Gamera movies. Giant turtle looks like a giant turtle to me! lol

There's a documentary I saw earlier this year called Men In Suits, that profiled the original Godzilla performer, and other creature suit actors. It's really good.

So why are they using flares with red smoke trail? I know avid jumpers will use that so they can see each other but I don't think that's standard military protocol. One strike for me. Also, why send troops via halo jump? To surprise Godzilla? LOL. 2 strikes for me. One more strike and I won't even bother with this movie.

Damn it! Just send in the Jaegers!

^^ they probably don't have any hindsight. Who knows what else is in that destruction along with the Big G? Maybe smaller versions? They don't know... safest entry into the zone is a drop. And the trails help them see each other, like you said. Nothing wrong with that. Imagine the odds? Basically a god-like creature that could wipe out all life in earth if he has friends. So they need to keep organized. Besides, it looked damn cool! :P I do hope the movie is good and trying to keep upbeat about the trailer. It really is kinda good.

That looks a little trippy. Seeing all the folks who made all our favorite characters come alive. It always puts a smile on my face. That guy who was Chewbacca looked wild! I'd like to put him as my AV. lol

I'm intrigued. But Pacific Rim is the new standard-bearer for giant godzilla monsters destroying cities. (And I am not a fan of the Matthew Broderick version.) We'll see if Godzilla can keep up with the Del Toro's Gaijen :)

Sorry, but this version looks just like another big huge bag of suck just like the M. Broderick one that got dumped on us back in the day.

I don't think we've seen enough of this one to conclude that at this point. It seems that they've at least gotten the look right.
