Onkyo 626 with HDMI problem (1 Viewer)

I am having a little problem with my Onkyo TX-NR626 bought last August.

I have my cable TV module connected via HDMI for video and on the RCA analog for audio. When I turn on the receiver and select the CBL input (the one used for the cable tv), for some reason in some instances it stays on for few seconds than turns off. In some other instances, only the video works and sometimes everything works fine.

This does not happen when I select blutooth or FM input.

A friend told me maybe the power source is not sufficient, but checked every connection and specs and all seems to be ok.

Is there something to do with the way they hookup the HDMI+analog or should I be concerned with real problems on the AV receiver?

PS1: don't ask me why they installed HDMI for video + analog for sound, they say this is the only way to have the sound from CBL input
PS2: the video on RCA is not connected.

Is the HDMI sent to the TV and the analog audio to the AVR?(why not toslink?)

What cable box is this?

The HDMI and the Analog send from the box to the Receiver. The receiver then sends HDMi to the TV.

I tested again yesterday after few days with the power line disconected and all the functions were having the issue. In fact, the receiver turned on for couple of seconds than turned off. Many times.
Removed the power conditioner and connected straight to outlet and the same happpened.


Reading through the manual, it seems to be an internal protection system that turns it off. I left the system connected to the power for 30 mins and tried again. It worked!

I suppose will have same issue in the future and cannot afford to count on "lucky" as no root cause identified...

Does anyone had the same issue with this system?? Maybe any short on speakers or woofer?

If it is the 626. It has a 2year warranty. So relax.

Why? Answer this, Why is the there an analog audio between the cable box along with the HDMI into the AVR? Why?

Nobody else, anywhere, at all, with any modern STB/AVR combination, has to do that. Nobody. At. All.

So. What cable box is this so I can read that manual since you and the cable company can't be bothered to correctly connect it.

It says HDC 74X1 in the front. Also model n. HDC7411/78 i think the manufacturer is Pace.

I'm only coming up with Portuguese websites for that STB.

Just to follow-up on this: the problem was with the receiver's protection board. sent for fixing and now working fine!!

Its funny all over the internet people have been posting about Onkyo's problem with the HDMI boards going bad. Even on the official Onkyo forum I have heard this. I had my HDMI board burn up and my unit was out of warrenty but I still called and contacted Onkyo about it, I told them it was a known problem and was talked about every where on the internet. They told me they had no knowledge of hdmi problems but they still offered me a one time out of warrenty repair. I just found that to be a little odd if there was no known problems with the HDMI boards they would not have offered this and told me they have a newer revised HDMI board for this unit now! Hmmmmm just funny I thought.
