Used Cars failed miserably at the box office. When I viewed it back in 1980, I remember seeing it in a rundown downtown theater so it didn't play at the modern movie theater complex located by the mall. Needless to say, my viewing audience included me and a few rats looking for food.I ordered my disc the other day along with All the Kings Men and Conrack.

I recall we were very happy when GCC won the bid to play the film. It booked their screen for four empty weeks and could go for something else that was a little more of a money maker. I did enjoy the film and glad it found its cult standing. Jack Warden was fantastic in this.

I watched it dozens of times on HBO, which I think is where Pauline Kael saw it (she loved it, too). Its release in NY and NJ was scant.
