Netflix is now testing 4K Ultra-HD delivery, albeit at a modest frame rate.
Subscribers to Netflix can NOW view the test footage of movie clips ahead of a formal service introduction in 2014. Netflix has also established a partnership with Samsung to promote and demonstrate 4K movies. Too add to available content that is in native 4K, Netflix is currently shooting the second season of House of Cards in 4K.
While Netflix is forging ahead with 4K content, they are also dumping 3D content. This isn't a surprise as many other content providers (ESPN, etc.) have also dropped 3D content.
If the BDA doesn't get their act together, the Netflix solution could be the disruptor that takes optical media out of the picture.
